February 2016 Faves & Flops

$

How is it March already?? Is it just me or did February pass by really fast? Not complaining though...I'm officially done with Winter and ready for the warm weather! It's also time for my monthly Faves & Flops, so let's take a look at what I loved in February and what didn't work out.

Faves:
There were two palettes I absolutely loved this month...one I just reviewed yesterday and it's the City Color Timeless Beauty Palette ($24.99). It has four beautiful matte blushes and three highlighters and the formula is just so incredibly smooth and pigmented. See my full review here.
The other is the Lorac Getaway Palette ($20)I was a bit concerned after learning that Lorac's made-in-China palettes don't match up in quality to the ones made here in the U.S. but this one surprised me. It's super pigmented and soft and I find it similar to the Lorac Pro Palettes which are double the price. I love the assortment of shades and it'll be great to travel with this Spring and Summer! See my full review of the Getaway palette here.

Hard Candy's Velvet Mousse Liquid Lip Color ($6 at Walmart stores) has a comfortable, velvety texture but it dries more "matte" than a lot of the other similar drugstore formulas. Plus, the tin they come in is just too darn cute! See my full review here.

Maybelline's Master Precise Skinny Gel Pencil ($7.99 at drugstores) is a welcome addition to the drugstore eyeliner lineup...it's so easy to get this right into my lashline and it glides so easily in the waterline with great staying power. See my full review here.

Finally, there were two foundations that I really loved this month and I know I'll continue to wear these into the warm weather months. First is the Pur Cosmetics HydraFluid Water Serum Foundation ($39). This foundation is so lightweight, it melts right into your skin and looks like you're not wearing anything at all...yet it gives nice medium coverage with a satiny finish. See my full review here.
The other foundation I'm loving is the Flower Beauty E.E. Erase Everything Foundation ($12.98 at Walmart stores). It's like a foundation/primer hybrid and fills in pores, fine lines, and uneven texture while providing sheer-to-medium coverage. I love how it makes my skin feel super soft and look airbrushed! See my full review here.

Flops:
I never got around to reviewing the Physicians Formula Argan Wear Primer with Coconut Water ($14.99) but I just want to warn you...it's awful. First of all, the sprayer is strong and delivers a blast of product to your face rather than a gentle mist. It smells a little like coconut but there's also a chemical undertone to it and after spraying my face, I could taste it on my lips...it tasted a little bit salty and again, like chemicals. It left a greasy, tacky film on my face and never really sank in (and I have dry skin like the Sahara). Overall, it was just a big NO for me.

The Jesse's Girl Backstage Collection Eyeshadow Palette ($6.99 at Rite Aid) was also a big miss for me. The matte shades totally lacked pigmentation and the shimmer shades had chunky glitter and tons of fallout. It's a shame because it looked like such a pretty palette! See my full review here.

So that's the February 2016 edition of Faves & Flops. What were your favorite products that you tried this month? Did you run across any flops?

Urban Decay Summer 2016 Sneak Peek

The Urban Decay Summer 2016 collection is about to hit stores sometime this month or next month and I couldn't be any more excited because there are some really cool products in this launch. I spotted some sneak peeks on Instagram and wanted to share them with you in case you hadn't seen them yet...so let's take a look!
urban decay afterglow highlighters
Photo: @trendmood1 on Instagram
Just like their name suggests, the three Urban Decay Afterglow 8-Hour Powder Highlighters are supposed to last 8 hours...pretty amazing for a highlighter! They come in three shades: Aura, an iridescent light pink, Sin, a champagne pink, and Fireball, a deep-peach with pink undertones. I must own Sin and Aura, for reals.

The new 24/7 Waterline Eye Pencil in Walk of Shame is a nude liner that's meant to be used on the waterline to brighten your eyes. Not exactly a new concept, but I love the 24/7 formula so I'm glad they're adding an inner-rim brightener!
Then there's the 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Heartless, a frosted pink liner that's meant to brighten up the inner corner of your eyes. P.S. Urban Decay says it's perfect for hangovers!
They're also releasing the Naked Skin One & Done Hybrid Complexion Perfector. It's a "multitasking cream" that comes in six shades that range from light to deep. I'm guessing it's like a BB Cream, or maybe a primer/foundation combo? We shall see!
urban decay beach bronzer

Beach Bronzer is a new powder bronzer that comes in two shades...Sunkissed (light) and Bronzed (dark).

They're also adding more shades Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup, so now they'll be offering 24 shades total. They're also adding to the Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer, bringing the total to an impressive 11 shades! This photo shows some of the new shades and it looks like they'll be offering more options in the deeper range.

So what do you think? Are you excited for Urban Decay Summer 2016?

The sneak peeks on Instagram just keep rolling in! This one is from one of my favorite accounts to follow, @beautylogicblog (if you're not following her, definitely check her out...she has the best sneak peeks!). At first glance I thought these were glosses, but she says they're liquid lipsticks so I'm thinking they'll be more pigmented! They're coming out in May and will be $2.99 each.

Names from left to right: Chrysanthiums the Word, Coming Up Roses, peony express, Indigo Your Own Way, My Tulips Are Sealed, Days Of Fuschia Passed.

What do you think? Are you excited for these?

The new Garnier Whole Blends haircare line has arrived at Walgreens. I spotted them yesterday when I was in store and took a few photos of the display. There are six different lines in the collection and even though my store only had three of them in stock at the moment, I'll go over all six types in this post, so keep on reading! :)

First, here's a little bit about this line from Garnier's website:

Hydrating Coconut Water & Vanilla Milk: Quenches and Softens Dehydrated hair. There's a shampoo, conditioner, 2-in-1 shampoo & conditioner, and hydrating mask.

Repairing Honey Treasures: Strengthens and heals damaged hair. There's a shampoo, conditioner and repairing mask.

Smoothing Coconut Oil & Cocoa Butter: Tames and controls frizzy hair. There's a shampoo, conditioner, leave-in conditioner and smoothing oil (leave-in and oil not pictured in the display).

Color Care Argan Oil & Cranberry: Protects color and reveals radiance. There's a shampoo, conditioner, and color care mask.

Refreshing Green Apple & Green Tea: Revitalizes and boosts shine. There's a shampoo, conditioner, 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner, and refreshing 5-in-1 spray.

Also, I wanted to mention that right now at Walgreens, haircare is buy 2 get 1 free with your balance rewards card, and these are included! So you can get three products for $7.98. I ended up bringing home the Coconut Oil & Cocoa Butter shampoo and conditioner (it smells amaaaazing) and got the Honey mask for free!

Sonia Kashuk's Spring 2016 Knock Out Beauty line has arrived at Target! Included in the line are an eyeshadow palette, gorgeous highlighter with a boxing glove design, a lip transformer and more. There aren't many details on the Target website at the moment so I don't have product descriptions to share with you guys, unfortunately.
There's also a new eyeshadow palette that's part of the regular collection which I've added to the photo below (bottom right) and tons of new brushes and bags. I'll be heading over to Target today so I'll look to see if it's landed at my local store yet. For now, you can browse the full line at Target.com! (Just sort by newest rather than best seller and all of these will come up first).

Lorac Color Source Buildable Blush Review & Swatches

On a recent trip to Kohls, I picked up a few of the new Lorac Color Source Buildable Blushes ($22). You guys probably know from reading my blog that Lorac's Pro eyeshadows are one of my absolute favorite formulas, but I've never tried Lorac blushes before so I figured it was about time! Let's take a closer look...
lorac color source blush review
Description: LORAC brings you cheek color that will stay with a silky-smooth matte finish and it's called Color Source Buildable Blush.

PRODUCT FEATURES
  • Silky-smooth matte and satin blush
  • Infused with anti-aging antioxidants such as pomegranate, acai and vitamins A, C & E.
  • Long-wearing
  • Paraben-free
Price/Where to Buy: $22 at Kohls, and Ulta

Quick Verdict: An amazing blush and a must-buy...but there is a pretty close dupe. More on that below.

lorac color source buildable blush
Color Source Buildable Blush comes packaged in a cute little box with a circular cutout so you can see the shade inside. They contain antioxidants such as Pomegranate, Acai, and Vitamins A, C, & E and are paraben-free. Also, it's worth noting that the box itself is actually safety sealed which is a really nice touch for those of us who want to make sure the products we're buying are tamper-free.
lorac color source buildable blush
The compacts they come in are beautiful...they're mirrored gunmetal with a sleek magnetic closure. Maybe I'm a weirdo but I love how they click shut...it's so satisfying! The magnet that holds the compacts together is so strong that it feels just as secure as a compact that clicks shut with a latch closure. On the back of each compact there's a label that's the same color as the blush itself with the name of the shade in large bold letters. I really like how they designed it because it makes it really easy to know which one you're grabbing out of a drawer if they're flipped upside down.
lorac color source blush
Chroma is described as a "satin berry" shade, and it looks a lot lighter in person than it does on the Ulta and Kohls websites. That being said it is a beautiful pink-berry shade that gives my cheeks a warm rosy flush.
lorac color source blush in chroma
Technicolor is described as a matte coral shade and is probably my favorite, especially going into Spring and Summer. It gives such a beautiful peachy glow to my cheeks that's warmed up with just a hint of pink.
lorac color source blush technicolor
I fell in love with these blushes at first swatch. It's like Lorac took their Pro eyeshadow formula and made blushes with it! It's soft, creamy and highly pigmented. In fact, I'm surprised that they call these "buildable" blushes because to me, that would indicate that they go on sheer and can be built up. However, just the tiniest dip into the pan coats your brush with quite a bit of product and you actually have to be careful not to overdo it.
I just love how the silky smooth formula blends seamlessly into my skin, and the color you see in the pan is what you get. The one downside (other than the price) is that they do kick up quite a bit of powder when you swirl your brush into them.
lorac color source blush swatches

As I was playing with these, I realized that they reminded me of another blush formula I know and love...and it costs less than 1/4 of the price...the City Color Be Matte Blushes. They're $4.99 and have been my holy grail drugstore blush for quite a while now. They have a very similar look and feel (minus the beautiful gunmetal packaging) and you actually get more product...they're .314 oz. compared to .14 oz. you're getting with the Lorac Color Source.
They have a similar silky smooth texture and even kick up a similar amount of powder. They're also pretty much on par as far as pigmentation goes. In fact, the only thing the Lorac ones have over the City Color Be Mattes is that they're a bit creamier feeling and pick up just a little easier. But it's such a slight difference it's hard to tell.
lorac color source blush dupe
You can see by the swatches that the City Color blushes are just as pigmented. Blackberry looks lighter because the shade itself is actually a little lighter but it was the closest one I had to Chroma. City Color's Guava is very close to Technicolor, leaning only a little more pink. Both formulas last a good 6-7 hours on me before fading, likely because they're so pigmented they actually stain your cheeks a little bit.
lorac color source dupe

Overall, I'm completely in love with the new Lorac Color Source Buildable Blushes...everything about them is on point from the packaging to the shades to the amazing formula. But I have to wonder if they're worth the hefty $22 price tag when there's a really close dupe in the City Color Be Matte Blushes. I'll leave it to you to decide whether the beautiful packaging, slightly creamier formula and different shade range is enough to make splurging on these worthwhile!

You can find the Lorac Color Source Buildable Blushes at Kohls and Ulta
City Color Be Matte Blushes are available at CityColorCosmetics.com or at your local Five Below store.

New L'oreal Voluminous Butterfly Sculpt Mascara Spotted at Target

I was completely taken by surprise when I walked into Target today and saw a brand new L'oreal mascara. I'm usually up on the new releases before they hit the stores but I had no clue about this one! It's called Voluminous Butterfly Sculpt and it has a really interesting twist!

The inner bristles deposit color right into the lash line for a tightline effect, while the outer bristles fan your lashes out, similar to the other Butterfly mascaras (which I loved by the way). I'm so excited to see a drugstore mascara that could possibly be a dupe for IT Cosmetics Tightline mascara. I bought one to test out, so I'll be able to compare the two. The brushes look totally different, but I'm hoping the effects are the same.
Have you seen this at your Target yet? Or at any other drugstores?

The Balm Meet Matt(e) Nude Review & Swatches

The Balm Meet Matt(e) Nude ($42 at Kohls) isn't a new palette but I picked it up during a recent The Balm sale on HauteLook and I've had quite a few requests for a review and swatches. I think a lot of you are wondering if it's worth the $42 price tag and I can already tell you that although I'm happy I was able to get it for $21, I would definitely pay full price for this one (and I don't say that too often). Let's take a look!
The Balm Meet Matt(e) Nude Review & Swatches
Description: Perfect for day and night, this theBalm Meet Matt(e) Nude eyeshadow palette draws attention to your eyes.
  • Nine matte eyeshadows can be worn wet or dry.
  • Mirror attached for easy application.
  • Triple-milled pigments
  • Can be used wet or dry
  • Talc-free
  • Paraben-free

Price/Where to Buy: $42 at Kohls and TheBalm.com

Quick Verdict: Yes, yes, YES! You need this one.
The Balm Meet Matt(e) Nude Review & Swatches

First of all, the packaging is so adorable, just like all The Balm products. It's quite large and it has a nice big mirror. The soft cardboard palette has a magnetic closure and I feel like it is very well cushioned to protect against the shadows breaking if this gets dropped. It also has a nice slim profile, so it's not a heavy, clunky palette to store.

All nine shades are matte, which is one of the reasons I purchased this palette. As I get older, I tend to gravitate toward more matte shadows and the only all-matte palette I have is the original Tarte Tartelette palette. So I was definitely looking to add more shades to my collection, especially since I don't buy single eyeshadows very often.

This palette has a beautiful range of shades, both warm and cool, including a pure white shade which is hard to find in most palettes. Usually you get a cream or a pale pink as the lightest shade, so having a pure white shade is a welcome addition to my collection.

I'm so glad that each shade stands on it's own, there aren't any in this palette that are too close to each other. There are three gray shades...Matt Johnson is a deep charcoal, Matt Abdul is a pretty medium gray and Matt Hung is a grayish purple shade. There are also three brown shades...Matt Garcia is a warm deep brown while Matt Rosen is a warm medium brown. Matt Wood is a really deep, rich brown that would work great as a liner. But the nice thing is, all three browns and all three grays are very different from each other.
The last three shades are very different from each other... Matt Malloy is a pure creamy white, Matt Singh is a pretty peach shade, and Matte Lombardi is a buttery tan-yellow.

the balm meet matt(e) nude

The formula of these shadows is beautiful. They're so smooth and silky with very little fallout. They feel almost creamy which is rare for matte eyeshadows...most of the time mattes are dry, powdery, and brush off of the skin easily without a primer. These really cling to the skin and have great staying power.  The pigmentation is just insane...look at that white shade! When I swatch eyeshadows, the really light cream or pink shades usually don't show up very well on my light skin, but this one really pops. These are swatched on bare skin, no primer and they're one swipe after swirling my finger around in the pan a few times.  They also go on very true to the color in the pan, which is just so amazing.

Overall, I can't recommend this palette enough and give it two thumbs way up! These are some of the best matte eyeshadows I've had the pleasure of trying. If you're willing to wait for another HauteLook sale, they usually come around once every few months, so there will likely be another one in the late Spring/Early Summer. Or, if you can't wait and want it now, don't feel too guilty about the $42 price tag...this is an extremely high quality palette. Plus, if you're buying it at Kohls, you can use your Kohls Cash and Yes2You rewards on this to save a little bit off the price.

Meet Matt(e) Nude can be found at TheBalm.com and at Kohls.com and select Kohls stores.

Pixi Nourishing Lip Polish Review

About a month ago, I was at Target and hauled a bunch of the new Pixi Skintreats products.  One of them was the Nourishing Lip Polish ($12) and I've been dying to do a quick review on this because I've really been enjoying it...it's like no other lip polish you've tried! Let's take a look...
pixi skintreats nourishing lip polish review

Decsription: This 2-in-1 lip exfoliator + nourisher helps to repair & protect dry, sensitive lips. Luxe, nutrient-rich formula smoothes lips with shea butter & a blend of sweet almond, apricot, and evening primrose oils. The unique massage applicator stimulates circulation, giving a healthy, plumped effect.

Price/Where to Buy: $12 at Target.com and select Target stores (that carry Pixi Beauty).

Quick Verdict: This is a really unique mess-free lip scrub...I love it!

When I first purchased this, I assumed it was like any other lip scrub...a balm with a gritty texture that I'd apply from the tube and then use my finger to scrub it back and forth on my lips before tissuing it off.

But then I opened the cap and realized that the applicator is the part that scrubs. It has little silicone nubbies that are flexible so they move back and forth as you move it across your lips. It feels really soft and not scratchy at all, and it feels like you're giving your lips a nice massage. Once you're finished, your lips look a little plumper due to increased circulation, although the effect is temporary.

The balm inside is liquidy, more like like a gloss and it feels silky smooth and hydrating. It also tastes sweet, like sugar! There's no mess involved in applying this at all, just swipe it back and forth and then leave it on as a treatment balm. I like to use it just before bed and then leave the balm on overnight. If my lips are extra dry, I'll layer the Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask on top.

pixi nourishing lip polish

Overall, I love how this lip polish is a one-step wonder. There's no dipping your fingers into a pot and no need to remove the product when you're finished. You could use this anywhere without a problem, because it's not any more complicated than applying a lip balm. The slim tube is also very travel friendly...I plan to pick up another one to throw in my purse since this one has earned a place on my nightstand.

You can grab this now at Target.com and select Target stores where Pixi is sold.

New Color Correctors For Every Budget

**Update- New Products Added** Color Correcting has been around a long time but it seems like it just exploded in popularity with brands at every price point releasing their own versions for Spring 2016. So I thought I'd put together a little guide to all of the new options that have just been released in the past few days/weeks. I'll start with the least expensive and work my way up...let's get started!
color correcting makeup

Essence Say No to Imperfections, Dark Circles, and Redness ($2.99 at Ulta Beauty) are super affordable and in a convenient chubby pencil form. These seem like they would be really easy to just swipe over the area of concern quickly and blend. They're definitely on my must-try list!
essence say no color correctors
Catrice Colour Correcting Mattifying Powder ($6.99 at Ulta)- The ultra-fine, silky matte Colour Correcting Mattifying Powder from Catrice corrects and evens out color irregularities with a blend of four color correcting powders. The pink powder freshens up tired complexions, purple gives dull skin lustre, green neutralizes redness and beige highlights the natural skin tone. Together the ultra-fine, silky-matte powder creates a radiant, healthy finish with a natural matte look.

NYX Color Correcting Powders ($9.99 at Ulta Beauty) come in three shades...green to correct redness, lavender to brighten sallow skin, and yellow to neutralize dark circles. These claim that they can be used both over and under foundation. I wouldn't think a powder would work well under foundation...wouldn't it gunk up? I'd love to hear from someone who's tried it that way!
nyx color correcting powder
Makeup Revolution Ultra Base Corrector Palette ($10 at Ulta Beauty)- This contains 8 cream correctors... Pink to brighten, Lavender to neutralize yellow tones, Green to neutralize redness, Orange to neutralize blue tones, Peach to balance out discolorations, White to highlight and brighten, Cream to neutralize purple and cover dark areas, and Brown to balance ashiness in medium to dark skin tones.
makeup revolution color correcting palette
NYX Color Correcting Liquid Primers ($13.99 at Ulta Beauty) are to be used all over your face for a lit-from-within-glow as well as color correction, so I'm guessing the effect is probably more subtle than the color correctors that are meant for spot-treating. Yellow illuminates fair complexions, Green neutralizes redness, Lavender gives luminosity to dull skin, Brown restores the healthy glow of medium to dark complexions, and Blue brightens sallowness in fair complexions.
nyx color correcting primer

Sephora Collection Bright Future Color Correctors ($14 at Sephora)-These gel-serum color correctors are feather light and buildable depending on your concern. Pineapple ceramide helps to improve the appearance of skin texture and add brightness, while the cotton swab-like applicator provides the perfect amount of product every time. Just dip, dot, and blend to neutralize before you conceal.
Green (neutralizes redness), Yellow (combats dullness), Purple (neutralizes sallowness), Pink (promotes brightness), Peach (promotes brightness and evens skintone for light complexions), Melon (promotes brightness and evens skintone for medium complexions).

Ulta Color Correct Concealer Palette ($15 at Ulta Beauty) is a full coverage concealer palette with yellow, green and lavender color correctors, plus a light and medium concealer. It also includes a full-size concealer brush and can be used before or after foundation.
ulta color correcting palette
Cover FX Correct Click ($18) and Click Stick ($8 at Sephora) are cream color correctors that visibly even out skin tone by neutralizing the appearance of discoloration. These six shades are universal to meet any correction need. You can use them individually, or purchase the Click Stick for $8 that holds two of the correcting sticks in a sleek, travel-friendly tube.

Green: light and medium skintones (neutralizes intense redness)
Yellow: light and medium skintones (neutralizes mild redness)
Lavender: light and medium skintones (neutralizes yellow and adds brightness)
Peach: light and medium skintones (neutralizes dark spots and undereye circles)
Orange: medium-to-deeper skintones (neutralizes dark spots and undereye circles)
Brick: deep skintones (neutralizes dark spots and undereye circles)

Smashbox Color Correcting Sticks ($23 at Sephora) are creamy sticks in an array of shades to target skin concerns. These sticks can be applied wet or dry to customize for sheer to medium or full coverage and also include a sharpener. Infused with moisturizing vitamin E to blur the look of fine lines and pores, they create natural-looking color when applied with foundation or concealer. Each pencil-like tip allows you to easily erase imperfections.

The Green shade instantly reduces redness, Lavender brightens sallowness/yellowness, and the Peach (for light skintones) and Orange (for deeper skintones) are perfect for illuminating your skin to conceal dark circles and hyper pigmentation.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Color Correcting Fluid ($29 at Sephora) are ultra lightweight and color correct while blurring imperfections with subtle pearlescent pigments. They also contain vitamins C & E.  Mint reduces redness, Peach masks circles/spots, Lavender balances sallowness, Pink brightens dark areas, and Yellow corrects dullness. If these are anything like the Naked Skin concealer formula, count me in...I love how lightweight and blendable it is.

urban decay naked skin color correcting fluid
Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Concealer Corrector ($29 at Sephora)are a little different from the rest in that each one is meant specifically for a particular skin tone. The Fair/Light shade (left) contains light orange to neutralize blue tones under the eyes and green to counteract redness. The Light/Medium shade (center) contains yellow to counteract red/purple tones in the eye area and orange to neutralize the blue tones of spots and discoloration. The Medium/Deep shade (right)to has a red-orange corrector to neutralize blue/green tones in the eye area and dark orange to neutralize brown/green tones typical of spots and discolorations. Like the Amazing Concealer, these claim to be highly pigmented, requiring only a pin-dot amount on an affected area. I love that these are targeted toward specific skin tones...the Fair/Light shade would be perfect for me to hide under eye circles with the light orange and the redness around my nose with the green. And if they're as concentrated as they say, they'll last forever.
amazing cosmetics color correctors
Beautyblender Micro.Mini Correct.Four ($30 at Sephora) these aren't actual color correctors but I wanted to include them because these special mini Beautyblenders are meant to use to apply color correctors. Each color symbolizes a different corrector so you can use each one with the matching product. That way, you can use different correctors on different parts of your face without having to wash your BeautyBlender in between! They’re perfect for applying formulas to smaller areas such as the under eye, around the nose, above and below the browbone, chin area, and for covering acne and dark spots.

Becca Backlight Targeted Color Correctors ($30 at Sephora) come in four highly pigmented shades that contain light-reflecting pearls to blur imperfections, similar to the Urban Decay ones above, but not as sheer. Pistachio neutralizes redness for fair-to-medium skintones with red undertones. Violet neutralizes dullness for light tan/olive skintones with yellow undertones,
Papaya neutralizes deep blues and greens for tan-to-deep-bronze skintones with blue undertones, and Peach neutralizes dark circles and hyperpigmentation for beige-to-deep bronze skintones.
becca backlight color correctors
Algenist REVEAL Concentrated Color Correcting Drops ($38 at Sephora)is a weightless color drop serum that combines microalgae, alguronic acid, and microalgae oil to instantly color correct, treat skin, and cover imperfections. The really cool thing about these is that you can use them alone or add into makeup or skin care productsto help balance skin’s texture and tone for smoother, more even, and longer-lasting makeup wear.

Green Color Correcting Drops: green microalgae and pigments work in synergy to color correct and neutralize redness.

Apricot Color Correcting Drops: golden microalgae and pigments work in synergy to color correct and neutralize dark, discolored skin.

Blue Color Correcting Drops: blue microalgae and pigments work in synergy to color correct and neutralize sallow skin.

Pink Color Correcting Drops: red microalgae and pigments work in synergy to color correct and neutralize dull-looking skin.

YSL Touche Eclat Neutralizers ($38 at Sephora)- Discover the award-winning complexion highlighter, now in a must-have, color correcting highlighter. It instantly cancels and neutralizes color imperfections for flawless skintone, and the easy-to-use, one-click brush allows you to perfectly target the problem zone.

Green: Corrects blemishes, conceals redness for an even skintone.
Bisque: Corrects dark circles and dark spots. Illuminate.
Violet: Corrects yellow dull skin for a healthy glow.

Lancome Miracle CC Cushion Color Correcting Primers ($39.50 at Sephora) can be used all over your face as a primer or as a spot treatment. I have to say, the idea of a cushion corrector really intrigues me! I love cushion foundations because they're so light and easy to blend, yet offer decent coverage at the same time. I feel like these will feel much lighter than other correctors, yet will still go on really pigmented. It comes in four shades: Purple cancels dullness and sallowness and neutralizes yellow skintones; Pinky Peach neutralizes overall darkness and conceals dark under eye circles; Green neutralizes redness from acne, blotchy skin, or irritation. Yellow, the most universal color corrector, matches any skintone, neutralizing mild redness, dullness, and signs of fatigue.

Marc Jacobs Cover(t) Stick Color Correctors ($42 at Sephora) come in a deodorant stick-style tube and each one has two shades marbled together. They come in three shades: Cover(t) Affairs contains green and citron shades to cover and neutralize redness, Getting Warmer contains peach and caramel shades to conceal hyperpigmentation and dark circles, and Bright Now contains pink and lilac to cover and eliminate dullness. I have to admit that these look cool, but $42...ouch!

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Wipeout Color Correcting Palette ($45 at Sephora on 2/29) is an all-in-one color correcting, contouring and brightening palette that contains six cream shades. Each shade is numbered and it comes with a guide that gives step-by-step instructions to help you perfect professional color correcting techniques. Orange counteracts darkness; Green neutralizes redness; Warmth sculpts, contours, and defines; Peach 1 camouflages light to medium skintones; Peach 2 camouflages medium to deep skintones; and Yellow highlights and brightens.
Stila Correct & Perfect Palette ($45 at Sephora) contains five sheer-to-medium color-correcting creams with buildable coverage and two finishing powders to set the creams, plus even out and brighten your skin tone. Peach: neutralizes dark under-eye circles on fair/medium skintones. Pink: Brightens eye area and masks fatigue. Yellow: Neutralizes hyperpigmentation and dark spots.
Green: Counteracts redness (i.e. from rosacea, acne, broken capillaries, and sunburn).
Orange: Counteracts dark under-eye circles on darker skintones; also neutralizes veins.

The Sephora + Pantone Universe Correct + Conceal Palette ($49 at Sephora) contains 15 creamy concealers and correctors and comes in two shade ranges to suit a variety of skin tones. It comes with a booklet that contains tips, tricks and application instructions from the Sephora Pro Team.

Whew! Can you believe how many color correcting products are out there right now? I really want to try those little Essence sticks and maybe one of the NYX primers. Also, the Amazing correctors look great, but I'm not sure I need something that heavy-duty so I might try the Urban Decay ones instead since they seem to be more sheer.
Which ones look interesting to you? Have you tried any of these yet?

bareMinerals Skinsorials 3-Part Ritual Kit Review

$

About a month ago, I was at Ulta and spotted the new bareMinerals Skinsorials range. I had read about the Skinlongevity Serum in a magazine and had already decided beforehand that I wanted to try it, but didn't realize that they had new cleansers and moisturizers too until I got there. I saw these 3-part ritual kits for $60, and since the serum is $48 by itself, I figured that the kit was a better option, since it allowed me to try the cleanser and moisturizer for only $12 more. Let's take a closer look...
bareMinerals Skinsorials 3-Part Ritual Kit Review
Description: Skinsorials, an exquisite beauty ritual filled with what your skin craves - gorgeous textures, naturally derived scents and effective ingredients - for your most beautifully resilient, younger and healthier looking skin.
PURIFY. Revitalize every time you cleanse.
EMPOWER. Enhance the healthy look and feel of your skin.
MOISTURIZE. Soften, smooth and deeply replenish.

Price/Where to Buy: $60 at Ulta or bareMinerals

Quick Verdict: I love the serum but the cleanser and moisturizer were just okay.

In the new Skinsorials line, there are four cleansers depending on your skin type, one serum that's universal across all skin types, and four moisturizers. The kit I purchased said it was for normal to dry skin (I have super dry skin in the winter that goes more toward normal in the summer) and contains the Pure Plush Gentle Deep Cleansing Foam, Skinlongevity Serum, and Bare Haven moisturizer.

Step 1: Cleanse

Pure Plush
is a thick, creamy foaming cleanser. When you first squeeze it out of the tube it actually holds it's shape...that's how thick it is! You only need a pea sized amount because a little goes a very long way. It feels very soft and cushiony on your skin, yet at the same time, it feels like it's really getting deep down in there to deep clean with lots of foamy lather. It removes all of my makeup easily and my skin feels really refreshed immediately after using it. It also has a nice citrusy-fresh scent that's not overpowering (and the fragrance they use is all natural).

The main issue I have with this cleanser is that after an hour or so, my skin starts to feel really dry. I don't know if it's the sea salt that's in it (which is meant to purify) or what, but a little while after using this I noticed that I had dry patches that normally aren't there and my skin felt tight. I'm hoping that once the weather warms up and my skin is more normal, I'll be able to use this because I really do like it. It's a really effective cleanser and it feels and smells nice too.

Step 2: Treat

The Skinlongevity Vital Power Infusion is my favorite of the three products. It's a water-light serum essence that absorbs really quickly into your skin and leaves it feeling velvety soft and smooth. It contains humectants to bind water to the skin and Long Life Herb, which is supposed to defend against the signs of aging. The first time I used this, I noticed that my skin had a healthy glow even though it's been really dry and dull lately. I feel like my makeup goes on better because my face is so smooth and it doesn't leave any kind of residue whatsoever. It's too soon to tell if it's turning back the clock, but I do love the way my skin looks when I use this, so I'll definitely continue to do so.

Step 3: Moisturize

The Bare Haven moisturizer comes in a jar (not a fan of that) and has a medium-weight texture...somewhere in between a body butter and a thinner lotion. It melts right into my skin and disappears without leaving any greasy residue, but it's not quite enough moisture for me right now. I think it would be better on someone with normal skin, so next time I'll probably try the Butter Drench cream instead, which is meant for drier skin types. I should also mention that this has a light, fresh, citrusy scent for those of you who are sensitive. The fragrance is all natural, so it may not bother some people who react to synthetics.

Here's what they all look like swatched on my skin...the Pure Plush cleanser is on top and you can see how thick and rich it is. By contrast, the Skinlongevity serum is very thin and watery. The Bare Haven cream on the bottom is in between the two, texture-wise.

Overall, I'm loving the Skinlongevity Vital Power Infusion and will continue to keep on using it, but I'm not as happy with the other two products in the kit at the moment because they don't provide enough moisture for my ultra-dry skin...totally not the products' fault, they just weren't right for me.

I probably would have done better with the cleansing oil and Butter Drench cream instead, but they didn't have a kit with those options available. I'll hang on to both and try them again when the weather warms up because they may work better for me when my skin is more on the normal side.

The entire Skinsorials range can be found at Ulta.com and Sephora.com (Sephora has individual products only...no kits).

Sneak Peek: New Laura Geller Highlighters!

As a huge fan of Laura Geller's Baked Gelato Swirl Highlighters, I was so excited to see this photo on Instagram of two new shades that will be launching on April 10th...Peach Glow and Charming Pink!

A quick Google search led me to the QVC website, where the original two shades, Gilded Honey and Ballerina, are being sold with a brush. In the description, it mentions these two shades, but they aren't available for purchase yet.
Peach Glow is described as a "warm and luminescent golden shade" and Charming Pink is a "shimmery and glowing pearlescent pink".
If you've never been introduced to Laura Geller's highlighters, you can check out my review of the shade Ballerina here.
What do you think? Are you excited for this launch?

Mally EverColor Shadow Stick Extra 4-Pc Collection

Mally Beauty EverColor Shadow Sticks are my holy grail cream eyeshadows, but I rarely purchase them individually because they're so expensive on their own. If you walk into Ulta, you'll pay $25 for one eyeshadow. Don't get me wrong, they're definitely worth it...they don't crease, last from morning until night with no fading, and are so creamy and easy to use. But why pay $25 a pop if you don't have to? QVC periodically has sets available for a fraction of the price (including this one that I reviewed last year) and these value collections usually bring the price per eyeshadow down around $10 each. So they're definitely worth it if you love these eyeshadows (or have always wanted to try them).
QVC has just released a brand new set of four Mally Shadow Sticks for $41.12...that's $10.28 per eyeshadow stick and these are full sizes! The only downside is that you don't get to choose your colors, but if these appeal to you, this set is a total steal. You'll get Autumn Shimmer, Brownstone, Marina and Bliss (you can see swatches of Brownstone and Bliss in my post here).

I love the convenience of these because they're basically swipe and go...perfect for a busy mom on the go. They're great for those days when I don't feel like putting on makeup, and having them around makes it easy to get my act together, haha. I even keep a few in my purse and sometimes swipe them on in the car quickly before heading out on errands.

These sets tend to sell out really quickly, so check them out at QVC.com before they disappear! Right now they're also on 2 Easy Pays of $20.56.

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Eyeshadow Palette ($34 at Sephora) is brand new for Summer 2016 and even though I really don't need another nude eyeshadow palette, I couldn't resist it because I'm such a sucker for anything "beach" themed. Also, this is a brand new eyeshadow formula for Tarte, so I was really curious to test it out and of course, share my thoughts on it with you guys. Let's take a look!
Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Eyeshadow Palette Review
Description:  Define and defend lids from everyday aggressors with this eye shadow palette. Introducing plush shades in a velvety formula, they’re powered by tarte’s Rainforest of the Sea™ complex, formulated to hydrate and balance lids with a creamy powder is that is never drying or chalky.
Each of the pigmented, blendable shades is a blend of liner, lid, crease, and highlight shadows in wearable mattes and metallics to define and contour your eyes. It includes a step-by-step guide to take your look from beachy bronze to a sea-inspired evening eye.

Price/Where to Buy: $34 at Sephora.com (not yet in stores, arrives March 14).

Quick Verdict: If you're not tired of neutral eyeshadows, this is definitely worth picking up!

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Eyeshadow Palette
The Rainforest of the Sea Eyeshadow Palette comes in a pretty blue ombre box...a change from Tarte's regular purple packaging. Inside, the palette is a disk shape, similar to their Rainforest After Dark palette but it surprised me by being a whole lot smaller. It feels really heavy and expensive, and reminds me of an antique gold compact my grandma used to have. It's really well done and screams high-end...I absolutely love it. There's a really pretty sea-inspired design on top with swirls of gold, blue and purple, while the back and sides are a solid reflective gold color.

The center of the disk contains the eight shade names, plus the name of the palette in the middle. In a way, it feels like a waste of space, and I think back to how the Rainforest After Dark palette had a blush in the center (and this one is already much smaller than that one). Still, that's my one and only gripe with the packaging...otherwise, it's perfection!

Inside, there are eight nude shades, both warm and cool-toned, in matte and shimmer finishes. The official description above claims that the shimmer shades are "metallic" but the shimmer is actually really subtle and not overly sparkly. Some of the shades are even closer to satin in my opinion.

In a way, with a name like "Rainforest of the Sea" I would have liked to see some bolder, "tropical beach" shades mixed in such as turquoise, blues, and greens...I could definitely see Urban Decay doing something like that. But then again, Tarte is known for their timeless, wearable shades and I can't remember them doing a palette with anything other than neutral shades in recent memory. It's their niche, I guess!

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Eyeshadow Palette
The new Rainforest of the Sea formula is unlike anything we've seen from Tarte. Gone is the drier more powdery Amazonian Clay formula that was always hit-or-miss...these are creamy, buttery, and richly pigmented. They have a soft, plush, velvety texture that is more reminiscent of Makeup Geek and Kat Von D's Metal Crush shadows...the finish just isn't as metallic as those are.

They don't kick up any dust when you touch a brush to them, but if you dig in hard, they can flake off in tiny chunks, which is typical of this kind of soft velvety formula. Not a big deal for me at all, but I just wanted to point that out.

They pick up easily for the most part...I found the two matte shades, Cove and Sand to be a little more difficult to pick up but not terrible. All of the shades have a tendency to stick really well to your eyelids, even without any primer. The creamy formula is long-lasting (12 hours!) and didn't crease on me at all. These also get better the more you use them. After breaking through the initial top layer, they got even creamier and more pigmented.

My favorite shade is probably Wave, which is a stunning bluish-gray shade depending on how the light hits it. I also use Seashell, Starfish, Cove, and Mermaid in most of my looks, with Sand as a the perfect browbone highlight shade.

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Eyeshadow Palette swatches

b Overall, this is a really beautiful collection of Spring and Summer earth tones that's just perfectly done. I'm not surprised that it currently has a 5 Star rating on Sephora.com...Tarte has really stepped it up with this new formula and the expensive-looking (and feeling) packaging is to-die-for.

Even though I didn't need any more neutral eyeshadow palettes, I'm glad I picked this one up. I've been using it so much lately instead of my Naked Palettes. Seeing as how it's limited edition I plan to just enjoy it this Spring and Summer until it's gone. The smaller size makes it great for travel and it'll look right at home in my bedroom at the beach house this summer. Ah...I can't wait!
