Faves and Flops- Maybelline Edition

I was in Target earlier today picking up a few things for the house and on my way to the checkout, those brighter-than-the-sun lights of the beauty aisles drew me in again (damn them!).  I was really good and didn't buy anything this time but as I browsed, my blogging brain kicked into high gear and I thought up the idea for this post while standing in the Maybelline section. I saw products I thought were terrible and products I love, and while I've talked about most of them individually in blog posts over the years I thought it would be nice to put them all together in one place. Each product I mention here is one that I have strong feelings about one way or the other, so all the Maybelline products I didn't mention in this post fall somewhere between "I Love It!" and "No Thanks". Let's take a look!

best and worst maybelline makeup

Maybelline's Creamy Matte Lipsticksand ColorBlur Lipsticks are some of the few matte formulas I can wear because they're not super drying. They go on smooth, pigmented and don't drag during application. The new Vivid Matte Liquid on the other hand, was disappointing for me. The strong perfume smell is a bit too much for me...I can actually taste it, and I don't know if it was the particular shade I bought but it went on streaky. I much prefer the Revlon Ultra HD Liquid Mattes or the new Hard Candy Velvet Mousse Mattes.
maybelline matte lipsticks review
I used the Instant Age Rewind concealer for years and seeing it again in the store made me want to buy another bottle (but I have too many new concealers to get through at the moment). I love how creamy it is and how it doesn't settle into lines under my eyes...it just makes my whole eye area look brighter and younger. The Better Skin concealer on the other hand, was too sheer for me and dried with a powdery finish, settling into fine lines...not a good match for my dry skin!
maybelline concealer review
Maybelline has some pretty awesome mascaras...Lash Sensational, Full N' Soft, Lash Stiletto, the Falsies, Lash Discovery-I could go on and on. But the one Maybelline mascara I will never get is Great Lash. It has so many good reviews and I just don't understand. It doesn't do anything for my lashes...it gives very little length and volume and I get serious raccoon eyes from it. I've purchased it a few times over the last ten years or so thinking that maybe I'm crazy and this time I'll like it but nope... I don't get the hype!
maybelline mascara review
Maybelline has come out with two brow products recently that I've really been enjoying. The Brow Drama Pro Palettehas a tinted wax, nicely pigmented brow powder, and highlighting powder all in one kit. Plus the angled brush that comes with it is actually useable. I get great results with this kit! I'm also loving the new Brow Drama Pomade Crayon. I haven't had a chance to review it yet but it fills in your brows in one swipe...it's that pigmented. I like it a lot better than the Sephora Collection Brow Crayon I reviewed a while back and this one is cheaper. Plus, it helps to hold all the hairs in place at the same time. It's perfect for those mornings when I need to run right out the door quickly. But the Brow Drama Sculpting Mascara didn't work for me at all. The large ball tip on the applicator is wider than my eyebrows themselves so I ended up getting the product all over my skin...nope!
maybelline brow drama review
Foundation is one of those things that not everyone will agree on because there are so many different skin types and concerns. But Maybelline has two formulas that really work well for my dry skin...I like Dream Velvet for the days I want more of a soft satin/matte finish, and when I want more of a glowy complexion, I reach for Fit Me! Dewy + Smooth. Both of these formulas don't cling to dry patches or make my fine lines look more apparent. But Better Skin foundation is one that really didn't work for me. I felt like it sat on top of my skin and oxidized, turning orange on me after about an hour or so. Then after about 3 or 4 hours, it disappeared and it looked like I wasn't wearing foundation anymore. Overall, it was a total miss for me.
maybelline foundation review
Cream blush is your best friend when you have dry skin and I find myself reaching for them a lot more in the winter. I really like Maybelline's Master Glaze Blush Sticks, because they're pigmented, creamy and easy to blend. On me, they stay on for a good 6-7 hours or so before fading. The Baby Skin Instant Cheek Flush on the other hand, was a disaster. It felt greasy rather than creamy, and barely left any color behind. It also disappeared when I started to blend it, causing me to add more which just added to the greasy, sticky feeling on my cheeks...yuck.
maybelline blush review
Maybelline has one of the best cream eyeshadows on the market (in my humble opinion) with their Color Tattoos, so I was confused when they came out with the Color Moltenduos. They're a cream to powder hybrid which I like the idea of, but they're really sheer, don't pick up well with a brush, and fade really quickly. I was hoping they would be highly pigmented and long-lasting like the Color Tattoos, just with a softer, powdery finish (wouldn't that be the perfect combo?!) but alas, they didn't do it for me.
maybelline eyeshadow review
The Maybelline Color Elixirs are one of my favorite drugstore glosses because they're thick and dense like a balm, give lots of shine like a gloss, and go on rich and pigmented like a liquid lipstick. They're not sticky, feel hydrating, and have pretty decent staying power for a non-long wearing lip product. But I didn't really get the newer Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Glosses that came out back in the summertime. Every shade I tried went on almost completely clear and while they felt hydrating at first, they disappeared quickly taking moisture with them.
maybelline lip gloss review
So there you have it...my favorite and least-favorite Maybelline products! I hope to do a Faves and Flops post for all the brands eventually.
What are the best and worst Maybelline products in your opinion? I'd love to hear what you think. :)

Jesse's Girl Back Stage Collection Palette Neutral Nudes Review

$

A few weeks ago, I purchased the Jesse's Girl Back Stage Collection Palette in Neutral Nudes at Harmons for $6.99. It looked like a really cute mix of shimmers and mattes and I thought it was about time I tried something from Jesse's Girl. A lot of people rave about their eyeshadow primer which is next on my list, but they didn't have that in stock so I grabbed this instead. Drugstore eyeshadow palettes have been on the up and up lately so I figured it was worth a shot, especially at under $10. Let's take a look!
Brand Description: Who said neutral has to mean boring? Let your natural beauty show with the Jesse's Girl Back Stage Collection in "Natural Nudes". This palette of 10 natural nude shadows takes you from office-appropriate to simply seductive, all in one travel-friendly compact (5 inches by 3 inches).

Price/ Where to Buy: $6.99 at Harmon, Rite Aid, and on the Jesse's Girl website.

Quick Take: Save your money!

Jesse's Girl Back Stage Collection Neutral Nudes review
This palette comes packaged in a black plastic case with a see-through window on top (no mirror) and a dual-ended sponge tipped applicator. It consists of six shimmery shades on the top row and four mattes on the bottom. All of the pans are a nice size and the shades are rosy-toned neutrals.
I had high hopes for the formula of these eyeshadows because I've heard good things about their loose pigments. I dug into the shimmery shades first and they felt very soft and almost "fuzzy". They seemed to pick up easily with my finger but then they kind of stuck there and didn't apply smoothly to my skin. The shimmer in these shades is pretty chunky which causes a lot of fallout and once applied to your eyes, they flake off pretty quickly.
Jesse's Girl Back Stage Collection Palette Neutral Nudes
They also did this after dipping my finger into the pan one time...the dreaded hard patch. I always make sure my fingers are totally dry before swatching and my skin has very little natural oils in it so this rarely happens to me, except with lower-quality palettes.
hard eyeshadow
The matte shades on the bottom row were even worse. They were hard and dry and I had to work really hard to get them to pick up at all and they barely showed up on my skin. Here you can see the six shimmer shades starting at the top and then the four mattes on the bottom which are hard to see except for the last two.
Jesse's Girl Back Stage Collection Palette Neutral Nudes swatches
The Bottom Line: Save your money on this one. The shades are pretty but they're either chunky and flaky or hard and dry. You can find similar rosy-toned shades in the new CoverGirl TruNaked Roses palette, which is $9.49 at drugstores (see my review of that palette here) and the quality is excellent.

New Color Correctors For Every Budget

Color Correcting has been around a long time but it seems like it just exploded in popularity with brands at every price point releasing their own versions for Spring 2016. So I thought I'd put together a little guide to all of the new options that have just been released in the past few days/weeks. I'll start with the least expensive and work my way up...let's get started!
color correcting makeup

Essence Say No to Imperfections, Dark Circles, and Redness ($2.99 at Ulta Beauty) are super affordable and in a convenient chubby pencil form. These seem like they would be really easy to just swipe over the area of concern quickly and blend. They're definitely on my must-try list!
essence say no color correctors
NYX Color Correcting Powders ($9.99 at Ulta Beauty) come in three shades...green to correct redness, lavender to brighten sallow skin, and yellow to neutralize dark circles. These claim that they can be used both over and under foundation. I wouldn't think a powder would work well under foundation...wouldn't it gunk up? I'd love to hear from someone who's tried it that way!
nyx color correcting powder
Makeup Revolution Ultra Base Corrector Palette ($10 at Ulta Beauty)- This contains 8 cream correctors... Pink to brighten, Lavender to neutralize yellow tones, Green to neutralize redness, Orange to neutralize blue tones, Peach to balance out discolorations, White to highlight and brighten, Cream to neutralize purple and cover dark areas, and Brown to balance ashiness in medium to dark skin tones.
makeup revolution color correcting palette
NYX Color Correcting Liquid Primers ($13.99 at Ulta Beauty) are to be used all over your face for a lit-from-within-glow as well as color correction, so I'm guessing the effect is probably more subtle than the color correctors that are meant for spot-treating. Yellow illuminates fair complexions, Green neutralizes redness, Lavender gives luminosity to dull skin, Brown restores the healthy glow of medium to dark complexions, and Blue brightens sallowness in fair complexions.
nyx color correcting primer

Ulta Color Correct Concealer Palette ($15 at Ulta Beauty) is a full coverage concealer palette with yellow, green and lavender color correctors, plus a light and medium concealer. It also includes a full-size concealer brush and can be used before or after foundation.
ulta color correcting palette

Urban Decay Naked Skin Color Correcting Fluid ($29 at Sephora) are ultra lightweight and color correct while blurring imperfections with subtle pearlescent pigments. They also contain vitamins C & E.  Mint reduces redness, Peach masks circles/spots, Lavender balances sallowness, Pink brightens dark areas, and Yellow corrects dullness. If these are anything like the Naked Skin concealer formula, count me in...I love how lightweight and blendable it is.

urban decay naked skin color correcting fluid
Amazing Cosmetics AmazingConcealer Corrector ($29 at Sephora)are a little different from the rest in that each one is meant specifically for a particular skin tone. The Fair/Light shade (left) contains light orange to neutralize blue tones under the eyes and green to counteract redness. The Light/Medium shade (center) contains yellow to counteract red/purple tones in the eye area and orange to neutralize the blue tones of spots and discoloration. The Medium/Deep shade (right)to has a red-orange corrector to neutralize blue/green tones in the eye area and dark orange to neutralize brown/green tones typical of spots and discolorations. Like the Amazing Concealer, these claim to be highly pigmented, requiring only a pin-dot amount on an affected area. I love that these are targeted toward specific skin tones...the Fair/Light shade would be perfect for me to hide under eye circles with the light orange and the redness around my nose with the green. And if they're as concentrated as they say, they'll last forever.
amazing cosmetics color correctors
Becca Backlight Targeted Color Correctors ($30 at Sephora) come in four highly pigmented shades that contain light-reflecting pearls to blur imperfections, similar to the Urban Decay ones above, but not as sheer. Pistachio neutralizes redness for fair-to-medium skintones with red undertones. Violet neutralizes dullness for light tan/olive skintones with yellow undertones,
Papaya neutralizes deep blues and greens for tan-to-deep-bronze skintones with blue undertones, and Peach neutralizes dark circles and hyperpigmentation for beige-to-deep bronze skintones.
becca backlight color correctors
Lancome Miracle CC Cushion Color Correcting Primers ($39.50 at Sephora) can be used all over your face as a primer or as a spot treatment. I have to say, the idea of a cushion corrector really intrigues me! I love cushion foundations because they're so light and easy to blend, yet offer decent coverage at the same time. I feel like these will feel much lighter than other correctors, yet will still go on really pigmented. It comes in four shades: Purple cancels dullness and sallowness and neutralizes yellow skintones; Pinky Peach neutralizes overall darkness and conceals dark under eye circles; Green neutralizes redness from acne, blotchy skin, or irritation. Yellow, the most universal color corrector, matches any skintone, neutralizing mild redness, dullness, and signs of fatigue.
lancome color correcting cc cushion
Last but not least, Marc Jacobs Cover(t) Stick Color Correctors ($42 at Sephora) come in a deodorant stick-style tube and each one has two shades marbled together. They come in three shades: Cover(t) Affairs contains green and citron shades to cover and neutralize redness, Getting Warmer contains peach and caramel shades to conceal hyperpigmentation and dark circles, and Bright Now contains pink and lilac to cover and eliminate dullness. I have to admit that these look cool, but $42...ouch!
marc jacobs cover(t) sticks
Whew! Can you believe how many color correcting products are out there right now? I really want to try those little Essence sticks and maybe one of the NYX primers. Also, the Amazing correctors look great, but I'm not sure I need something that heavy-duty so I might try the Urban Decay ones instead since they seem to be more sheer.
Which ones look interesting to you? Have you tried any of these yet?

I saw these on Instagram last night and wanted to share them with you guys...look at these lip swatches of the new Jordana Sweet Cream Matte Liquid Lip Color (see my original post about that here) ! For me, it's always most helpful to see actual lip swatches and this is all ten shades. What do you think? Any colors you've changed your mind about (in a good or bad way) now that you see them on the lips?

Maybelline Summer/Fall 2016 Sneak Peek

Maybelline has been testing out their new Summer/Fall 2016 lineup at New York Fashion Week and I've been following along on Snapchat and Instagram because they always post sneak peeks. Here's a sampling of some of the products you can expect to see on drugstore shelves starting in late May/early June (the official release date is June but stores always put them out early).
maybelline strobing stick, loaded bold lipstick

Master Strobing Stick by FaceStudio Illuminating Highlighter (shade pictured Porcelain) Yesss! I was just saying in my Maybelline Faves and Flops post how much I love the Master Glaze blushes, and this looks just like them, except it's a highlighter! I'm so glad more drugstore brands are releasing highlighters because it's such a big trend right now (and I have a serious weakness for them).

Color Tattoo Liquid Chrome (shade pictured Silver Spark)- Liquid Color Tattoos! I wonder how many shades these will come in?

Colossal Spider Effect Mascara- This will be arriving in stores in May ahead of the others (Maybelline always tends to release a mascara ahead of the new collections). Sigh...I just don't get the whole "clumpy spider lashes" look, so I'm wary of this one.

Color Sensational The Loaded Bolds Lipstick Collection- This collection will include 11 deep, bold shades including black, deep purple, bright orange and royal blue. They have a kaolin clay base for a more opaque look.

Here's a sneak peek of the black shade layered under "another yet to be released hyper gloss) posted on Maybelline's Instagram page. That gloss is called Lip Studio Shine Shot Glassy Top Coat but they haven't released any photos of it yet.

New Wet n' Wild at Walgreens

Yesterday I just happened to spot a new Wet n' Wild display way down on a bottom shelf when I was at Walgreens and it had the Geometric Highlighting Powders in it! I've been on the hunt for them ever since Wet n' Wild posted a sneak peek on Instagram a while back, so I was really excited and surprised to see them. Let's take a closer look...
wet n wild geometric highlighting powder
The Geometric Highlighting Powders ($4.99) come in three shades and are limited edition. There's a warmer, bronzy shade called Sun Ceremony, a pinky peach shade called Desert Explorations, and a pastel shade (very Pantone 2016!) called Where The Dreamers Go.

There are also three new Megaliner Liquid Liners in pastel shades. There was no price listed on these so I'm not 100% sure how much they are...I'm assuming $2.69 which is the regular price of them at Walgreens.

Finally, there are two new Coloricon Eyeshadow Trios in pastel shades. These are also limited edition and I'm taking a guess that they're $2.69 like the permanent ones are.

I ended up buying all three highlighting powders, so look for a review of those coming soon! :) Have you seen this display yet? Or tried any of these new limited editons?

I also want to try the Rainforest eye shadow palette, highlighter palette, lip products, lip primer, and setting spray. Plus I love the Day/Night palettes at Ulta. Ugh...decisions, decisions! :)

Farmacy Lip Bloom Review + Giveaway!

About a month ago, I was in Sephora and one of my friends who works there kept raving about the new Farmacy Lip Bloom lip treatments ($16.50 each) At the time, I didn't really need another lip balm, but I kept it in the back of my mind for next time. So when I was recently offered the chance to try one, I jumped at the chance, especially after doing some research into the brand. Founded in New York, the owner, Mark Veeder discovered Echinacea Greenenvy, a variety of echinacea purpurea that contains the highest known levels of cichoric acid which is an antioxidant that protects the skin from free radical attack and helps to even skintone. It's grown on a small farm in upstate NY and is in all of Farmacy's products. Once grown, it's transported just a few hours to the lab where it's combined with nature's most effective ingredients to create the Farmacy skincare line. So today, I'll be reviewing their Lip Bloom in Apple Rosemary and also giving away their Sleep Tight Firming Night Balm (which is amazing by the way) to five lucky readers. Let's take a look!
farmacy lip bloom
Brand Description: This soothing herb-infused balm forms a protective barrier on the lips, leaving them smoother, softer, and fuller. The formula contains Echinacea GreenEnvy™, a unique, patent-protected variant of echinacea purpurea that contains the highest known concentration of cichoric acid, which helps protect the skin. Castor seed oil provides a plant-based protective film that helps preserve natural hydration levels. Sunflower seed oil helps maintain the skin’s barrier function with high levels of emollients derived from natural essential fatty acids.

Price/Where to Buy: $16.50 at Farmacybeauty.com and Sephora.com

Farmacy Lip Blooms come in six delicious flavors such as Strawberry Basil, Vanilla Mint, and Honey Ginger, to name a few. I've been using Apple Rosemary for about a week now and I'm addicted to the scent! It smells mainly like apple to my nose, but since I've never owned an apple scented lip balm before it's a unique experience for me. It smells so fresh and crisp, yet sweet at the same time.
It comes in a cute little white pot with a mirrored lid, and while I love the look of the packaging, I'm not a fan of lip balms in jars...mainly for hygienic reasons, but also because it's a little messier than just slicking on a balm in a tube.
The balm itself feels hard in the jar at first, but melts into your lips on contact and feels so silky and smooth with no stickiness at all. I kept rubbing my lips together because it just feels so nice (and the scent sticks around too!)  It gives a nice shine to your lips when you first apply it and eventually absorbs completely, so it's perfect for wearing with lipstick/gloss because it's not heavy or greasy. Since it's not quite as thick and hydrating as some of the balms I use as overnight treatments, I mainly wear this during the daytime. When the weather gets a little warmer and I don't need an intensive treatment, this may be enough for me to wear at night too.

farmacy lip bloom

Overall, if you're looking for a natural lip balm that smells amazing and makes your lips feel like silk, you'll definitely want to check out the Farmacy Lip Blooms!

Another Farmacy product I have fallen in love with is the Sleep Tight Firming Night Balm ($48 at Sephora). It looks like a solid balm in the jar but as soon as your fingers touch it, it melts into a soft oil that makes your skin feel like pure velvet. It absorbs really well (at least into my dry skin) with no greasy residue, unlike a lot of other oils I've tried. I've been wearing it on top of my nightly skincare products and it seals everything in and plumps up my skin. In the morning, I literally can't stop touching my face, it's so soft.

Farmacy was nice enough to send me five Sleep Tight balms to give away (they're smaller travel sizes, not full size), so you can experience it for yourself. You can enter below...good luck! :)

Great news for those of you who don't live near a Kmart! The Jordana Sweet Cream Matte Liquid Lip Color is now at Walgreens. I spotted them at my local store tonight along with some new liquid eye shadows. These are $4.99 each...$2 more than at Kmart, but Jordana does go on sale at Walgreens from time to time.  To see swatches of all ten shades, check out my previous post here.

Wet 'n' Wild Geometric Highlighting Powder Review & Swatches

Wet 'n' Wild Geometric Highlighting Powders ($4.99 at Walgreens) are new, limited edition highlighters for Spring that claim to be long-lasting, silky smooth, and blendable. They come in three shades and feature a pretty mosaic pattern. I'm not sure if these are a Walgreens exclusive or if they'll be showing up at CVS, Rite Aid and Target as well. Let's take a look!
Wet 'n' Wild Geometric Highlighting Powders

When I first saw these, I immediately thought of the Cle De Peau Face Enhancer Luminizing Powder (which is $55 for just the refill). Look how close these look...definite dupe territory! Unfortunately, I don't have these to compare the Wet 'n' Wild version to, but from the reviews I've seen, they seem to give a similar, subtle effect.

The Wet 'n' Wild Geometric Highlighting Powders come in white plastic packaging, similar to their blushes and include a small brush.
Wet 'n' Wild Geometric Highlighting Powders
Where do Dreamers Go is cool-toned with pastel shades of blue, lavender and cream and has the frostiest finish of the three, yet is still pretty subtle. On my skin it appears white but the shimmer isn't overly glittery and it doesn't accentuate pores.

where do dreamers go

Desert Explorations has shades of white, tan and pink and has warmer undertones. When swirled together, it appears on the skin as a very pale pink with more of a pearly finish vs. a shimmery one.
desert explorations

Sun Ceremony ended up being the most surprising color for me...I expected a bronzy shade based on the way it looks in the pan, but it ends up being a true gold shade that's very subtle on my fair skin. Again, the finish isn't too strong and it's almost more pearly than shimmery.
sun ceremony

These shades can be built up, which is what I had to do here to get them to show up in a photo, but they go on very subtle at first. These aren't "in your face" highlighters, so if you like that strobing look with a noticeable highlight on your cheekbone, you might be disappointed with these. Personally, I liked them because I felt like I had more control over how much to use. Some highlighters go on stronger than I'd like and it's much harder to remove them once you've added too much. With these, I can keep building to my desired finish.
The one downside is that they kick up quite a bit of fallout and dust with a brush due to the softer formula, but I don't mind because the soft silky formula means that they blend really nicely into the skin.
Wet 'n' Wild Geometric Highlighting Powder swatches

Overall, these are really pretty highlighters and I like the more subtle, refined shimmer compared to some other drugstore formulas like the L'oreal True Match Lumi Highlighters which I found to be too chunky and glittery for my taste.  These are limited edition, so if you're interested in them, I wouldn't hesitate to grab them at your local Walgreens before they're gone!

When it comes to face palettes, I have a major weakness...I can't resist them whether they're filled with blushes, highlighters, bronzers, or a combination of all three. So when I saw these beauties arrive at Sephora and Ulta recently, I knew I was going to have a lot of trouble deciding...let's take a look!
bareMinerals Lovescape Collection READY Color Boost ($24 at Ulta Beauty)- Filled with beautifully warm, radiant hues that flatter all skin tones, this triple threat can be swept all over or just onto cheeks or eyes for instant oomph. These shades look so beautiful and I love the pattern in the powder!

Makeup Revolution Vivid Shimmer Brick ($7 at Ulta Beauty)- Provides instant radiance to any complexion. Sweep across the brick for uniform application or use individual swipes for attention in certain areas. I love everything Makeup Revolution so I'm excited to try this!

NYX Strobe of Genius Palette ($18.99 at Ulta Beauty)- This palette features seven velvety-smooth shades that will enhance your features with serious levels of illumination. I've been wanting this palette since I saw sneak peeks of it on Instagram months ago, and I went to Ulta the other day to get it and it was sold out at my local store. Time to place an online order!

Laura Geller Just Blushing A Trio of Baked Blushes ($34 at Ulta Beauty)- Treat your cheeks to a gorgeous, natural-looking flush with this trio of best-selling blushes. This limited-edition palette features top-rated Laura Geller Baked Blush with skin-loving antioxidants to give your skin a good-for-you-glow. Shades are Tropic Hues, Bora Bora/Maui, and Golden Apricot. I'm obsessed with Laura Geller's baked blushes lately so having three in one palette is a must!

Fiona Stiles Light Illusion Prism Palette ($28 at Ulta Beauty)- soft focus, silky powder that captures, diffuses and softens the way light reflects on skin, to give a lit from within appearance. This is a new brand that's exclusively at Ulta, created by celebrity makeup artist Fiona Stiles...I can't wait to try her products, starting with this beautiful palette.

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Skin Twinkle Lighting Palette ($42 at Sephora)- A versatile trio of silky perfecting powders, you can filter and reflect light for a soft focus glow. The middle Filtered Light shade is your go-to setting powder in a universal matte sand that brightens and corrects any darkness under the eyes. Paired with two full-size, luminous perfecting powders, they’re perfect for illuminating the contours of the face for a natural-looking glow that flatters all skintones.

Have you tried any of these yet? Or are any of them on your wishlist?

Today's Ulta Haul

It's tough living 45 minutes from the nearest Ulta store. I'm always hoping they'll put one in my local area but for now, I have to deal with going once every couple of months. It's been waaay too long, so I convinced my husband to go with me today (he's such a good sport!). During today's trip, I ended up getting all brand new products and and I'm so excited to try them all! Let's take a look...
ulta haul

1.Nyx Strobe of Genius Palette ($18.99)- Last time I went to Ulta they were all sold out of this palette and today I ended up getting the last one in the display. I'm so excited to try this because I've heard great things about it!
2. Living Proof Timeless Pre Shampoo Treatment ($10 for 2oz)- Timeless is Living Proof's new line for "aging" hair. At 38 years old, my hair is definitely thinner and duller than it used to be so I'm really interested to see how this line works. I decided to start with the Pre Shampoo Treatment, which can be used 5-10 minutes before shampooing or even the night before like an overnight mask. If I like it, I'll probably spring for the shampoo and conditioner next.
3. Laura Geller Baked Radiant Setting Powder ($32)- Color correcting products are huge right now, and I spotted this finishing powder that contains all different colored pigments in one compact on a big display in the middle of the aisle. I tried a bit of the tester on my hand and was impressed by how it added a beautiful radiant glow to my skin, like it was lit from within. I can't wait to try it, especially as an under eye setting powder!
4. Kardashian Beauty Hair Shampoo & Conditioner (not yet online)- I'm not a big Kardashian fan but I have to admit that their hair styling products are pretty amazing (they're made by Farouk...same company that makes CHI and Biosilk). I've been hoping they would add a shampoo and conditioner to the line so when I saw these, I couldn't resist!  Fingers crossed they are as great as the styling products!
5.IT Cosmetics Superhero Elastic Stretch Volumizing Mascara ($24)- I'm such a big fan of IT Cosmetics...they rarely make a product I don't like and their Hello Lashes is one of my favorite mascaras ever. So it was only natural that I pick their newest formula to try!

What was in your latest Ulta haul? I'd also love to know which of these products you'd like to see me review! Drop me a comment and let me know! :)

Recent HauteLook Haul- The Balm Cosmetics

If you haven't joined HauteLook yet, then you're missing out on some great beauty deals! It's one of my favorite sites to save tons of money on makeup...sometimes up to 80% off.  The downsides are that it requires some patience waiting for the brands you want to go on sale and also shipping often takes a few weeks, but if you can deal with that, you can get some amazing bargains. I recently picked up a few items from The Balm Cosmetics sale at the end of January and they arrived today. Let's take a look!
the balm cosmetics haul
I've been wanting the Meet Matt(e) Nude palette forever, but it was hard to justify spending $42 on a palette when I have so many. I couldn't pass it up this time though...it was only $21!
Also, The Balm's blushes are to-die-for...I've owned a few in travel sizes that I got in my Ipsy bag and Birchbox but have always wanted the full sizes. I was able to get these for only $10 each (regularly $20-$21).
I know these aren't new items, but if you'd like to see swatches/reviews, let me know in the comments below! :)
And if you haven't joined HauteLook yet, you can check it out here...it's actually owned by Nordstrom. Right now they have a Stila sale going on, with items up to 75% off!

The wait is over! The Too Faced Peanut Butter & Jelly palette and La Matte Color Drenched Matte Lipsticks are now available exclusively on Ulta.com.

too faced la matte color drenched lipstick
La Matte Color Drenched Lipstick ($22) is a brand new matte formula that claims to be "the most comfortable matte lipstick you'll ever wear". The high pigment formula applies creamy and non-drying with no bleeding or feathering. I have my eye on the peachy nude shade called "Sorry Not Sorry"...love the name and the color is gorgeous.

too faced peanut butter and jelly
The Peanut Butter and Jelly Eye Shadow Collection ($36) is the newest member of Too Faced's Chocolate Bar family but with a creamy peanut butter twist. This palette features 9 shimmer and matte shades formulated with antioxidant-rich cocoa powder. It actually looks better here in the Ulta.com photos than it did in some of the sneak peeks I've seen over the past few months, with more variation in the shades than I thought there was.

Will you be indulging in either of these new products?

Jordana Made to Last Liquid Eyeshadow Review & Swatches

I found the new Jordana Made to Last Liquid Eyeshadow ($4.99) at Walgreens recently and ended up purchasing all six shades to review and swatch for you guys today. I haven't had the best luck with liquid eyeshadow formulas in the past and usually prefer thicker cream formulas but I took a chance on these because I love Jordana and find them to be great quality most of the time. Let's take a look!
Jordana Made to Last Liquid Eyeshadow

Description: These aren't online yet so there's no "official" brand description/claims that I can share with you. Even the in-store display didn't make any claims about these being long-wearing or pigmented...the only thing it talked about was the applicator, which is a pretty unique shape (more on that below).
Price/Where to Buy: $4.99 each at Walgreens stores
Quick Verdict: A must-buy (as long as you don't mind a little glitter).

Made to Last Liquid Eyeshadow comes in six warm-toned nude shades that are packaged in small clear tubes so you can see the exact product shade inside. The applicator is "lemon-shaped" according to the store display...it's flat instead of the usual doe-foot style with a pointed tip that's perfect for getting into the corners of the eyelid and the crease. It feels super soft and flexible, and it holds a lot of product...actually more than you need. So for that reason, you can't apply this product completely with the applicator because it would put way too much eyeshadow onto your lid. Basically, I use it to dab a little on my lid and then blend it out with a finger.
Jordana Made to Last Liquid Eyeshadow
Jordana Made to Last Liquid Eyeshadow in Not a Wink Pink
The Made to Last Eyeshadows have a thinner, liquidy consistency similar to the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer or the L'Oreal True Match Concealer. Basically it feels like those lighter-weight concealers that come in a tube with a doe foot applicator vs. thicker formulas that are in a squeeze tube. I've tried liquid shadows with this consistency in the past and I've always been disappointed. You can see what I mean in my NYX Cream Eyeshadow review and here in my Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor eyeshadow review...both reviews are older so please excuse the horrible photography, but they give you a good example of how patchy they can apply.
Normally when I apply a cream eyeshadow that comes in a pot (such as Color Tattoo) it's a thicker formula so you can't see any skin through it, but liquid formulas tend to go on streaky  and can be difficult to build up without making them look even worse. Not the case with these!

As you can see from the swatches below, they apply really opaque and pigmented in one swipe. Once they dry, they're set for the entire day and I had no issues with creasing or patchiness at all! They can also be built up easily for a more intense look...just apply a thin layer, let it dry for about a minute, then apply another thin layer.
Jordana Made to Last Liquid Eyeshadow swatches

Below I'm wearing Not a Wink Pink and this is one coat. It's hard to tell in the photos but the finish is pretty glittery. In the swatch photos, they look like more of a metallic/chrome finish but once it's on the eyes, the glitter particles spread out a bit and become more noticeable. Thankfully they seem to stay on the eyelid rather than migrating down onto the rest of my face (except for maybe one or two strays throughout the day). I just wanted to mention that in case you're not a fan of glittery eyeshadows. Personally, I feel like these might be too shimmery for everyday use...at least for me. I typically wear mattes and shimmers but rarely venture into glittery shadows unless it's for a night out. These can also be used as a base for powder eyeshadow, so if you plan to layer something on top, it'll tone down the glitter a little bit as well.
Jordana Made to Last Liquid Eyeshadow in Not a Wink Pink

Overall, these are the first liquid eyeshadows I've used that haven't applied patchy or streaky and they truly last all day without creasing. They're also super affordable so if you see these at your local Walgreens, I wouldn't hesitate to pick one or two (or six) up!

Pros: Long Lasting, Affordable, Pigmented, Beautiful Shades
Cons: Glittery (may not be a con to some of you!)

An INCREDIBLE Sephora Freebie plus More!

If you've ordered from Sephora online before you probably know that they frequently offer free deluxe samples with a $25 purchase. Well if you're planning a Sephora haul in the next day or two, you'll definitely want to read this!
I placed an order last week for some of the new Tarte Rainforest of the Sea products and I used the code INTHENUDE to get a free deluxe sample of the new Clinique Chubby in the Nude Foundation Stick ($24).  I was expecting a miniature stick (like the ones you sometimes get from Benefit) but what arrived was huge! It's .12 oz which is more than half the size of the full-sized version (.21 oz). So I estimate the value to be around $13-$14...not bad for a freebie huh?
Here it is next to some of my other full-sized stick foundations...it's not as chunky as the Make Up For Ever one but it's just a tiny bit shorter than my N.Y.C Get It All foundation! So if you're planning a Sephora order in the next few days, definitely add this one to your cart...there are four shades left at the time of this post. So far, I'm loving it! It goes on really creamy and almost completely disappears into your skin so it looks like you're not wearing anything...yet it gives buildable medium coverage.

If stick foundations aren't your thing, check out these other freebies you can get right now with a $25 Sephora.com order (codes are on the bottom right)...

City Color Timeless Beauty Palette Review & Swatches

City Color is launching a ton of new products for Spring 2016 tomorrow (March 1) and one of them is the gorgeous Timeless Beauty Palette($24.99). I was lucky enough to get my hands on one before the official launch and I couldn't wait to review and swatch it for you. You guys probably know by now that I'm a huge fan of City Color Cosmetics and this definitely doesn't disappoint. So keep on reading for close-ups, swatches and a discount code to save 10% on this beautiful face palette.
City Color Timeless Beauty Palette review
The Timeless Beauty Palette comes packaged in a gold plastic case that feels pretty heavy and sturdy. I think part of the weight comes from the fact that this has a huge full sized mirror inside which is definitely a plus!

Inside there are four blushes and three highlighters. The blushes are mostly matte, but if you look really close, there's the tiniest bit of shimmer mixed in. On the skin they look completely matte with the exception of the dark orange shade which has just a hint of a shimmery finish. The highlighters are in huge pans and have a full-on shimmery finish that's very refined...you won't find chunky glitter here at all!
City Color Timeless Beauty Palette
The shades in this palette make it possible for it to appeal to all skin tones. The first two blushes are dark enough to show up nicely on deeper skin tones (lighter skin can use them too, just make sure to sheer them out) and the two lighter shades look so beautiful on light skin. I'm obsessed with that lavender pink shade (third one from the left)...I don't think I have another blush like it in my collection!
The highlighters are best suited toward medium to dark skin tones if you're using them strictly as a highlight. Personally, I can use the middle one as a highlighter on my light skin but I like to layer the other two over my blush when I want a shimmery finish instead of a matte one. That bronzy-purple highlight all the way to the right looks so nice layered over that lavender pink blush. They can also be used as eyeshadows, so there are really so many uses for this palette!
City Color Timeless Beauty Palette

The blushes feel just like the Be Matte blushes (which are some of my absolute favorites on earth)...they're so soft, blendable and highly pigmented. They're also really long-lasting for powder blushes, and it's almost like they stain my cheeks because they're so pigmented.
The highlighters are like buttah...they're so dreamy and soft, almost like a cream. The swatches below are one swipe on bare skin and there's not a bad shade in the whole palette. If your skin is any darker than mine, the lightest blush shade may not show up very well but it's just because it's so light, not due to lack of pigment.
City Color Timeless Beauty Palette swatches
Overall, the Timeless Beauty palette might be my favorite City Color palette yet! I love having four of the "Be Matte" blushes in one palette...I always want to bring them with me when I travel but this is so much easier. Plus the highlighters are really multi-purpose for me since I can use them as blush toppers and eyeshadows as well. The formulas of both the blushes and the highlighters are to-die-for and definitely high-end quality.
If you're interested in purchasing this palette, I have a coupon code for 10% off- it's BudgetBeautyBlog.

You can find the Timeless Beauty palette online at CityColorCosmetics.com starting on March 1, 2016.
