Lots of New Products Spotted at Kmart

$

I don't know why, but I don't go into Kmart very often...I'm so used to checking the regular drugstores and Target for new products but somehow I forget about Kmart. So when I do remember to go there, I end up finding tons of new products and that's exactly what happened today! Let's take a look...
jordana complete cover

I was SO excited to find the Jordana Complete Cover 2-in-1 Concealer & Foundation ($4.99). I believe this came out last year when the new "foundcealer" trend first started but it was only available on their website and I hate ordering foundations online. These are full coverage with a semi-matte finish and all day wear.  I had pretty much resigned myself to the fact that it would never be in stores, but I was wrong! Of course, I grabbed one to try so check back for a review soon.

The next thing I spotted was the Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer ($14.49). I saw this on their website a month or two ago but this is the first time I'm seeing it in store. It's a bit on the expensive side, but it has a $4 instant coupon on the package, so that helps a bit. It's infused with Murumuru, Cupuacu and Tucuma Butters from the Amazon and is supposed to melt into the skin, sealing in moisture. My dry skin will love that! It comes in two shades, Light Bronzer and Bronzer.

I also found the new Rimmel Kate Moss Spring Brights Lipstick collection ($5.29) which includes a lip conditioning balm. There are five limited edition shades.

Kmart also has the full collection of new Wet n Wild brushes, so if you haven't been able to find them at Walgreens or CVS, check your local Kmart. I forgot that they even carried Wet n Wild! These range from .99 to $2.99 each and a lot of people on Instagram have told me that they're amazing quality!

I also spotted these three limited edition Wet n Wild brushes and Brush Up Brush Cleansing Cloths (.99 to $2.99).

What do you think of these new products, is anything jumping out at you? Drop me a comment if you've seen these products in other stores!

BH Cosmetics Wild & Radiant Palette Review

Recently, BH Cosmetics had a killer sale and I hauled a few products I've been wanting for a while including the Wild & Radiant Palette($8.50). This is a baked illuminating and bronzing palette that contains four shades that can be used wet or dry to get that fabulous glow. Let's take a closer look...
BH Cosmetics Wild & Radiant Palette Review

First of all, I love the packaging! I much prefer softer, cardboard palettes with a magnetic closure like this one to a hard plastic palette. I feel like these travel more easily and are less likely to break when you drop them. It's also pretty to look at, between the soft colors and girly design...it's so cute!
BH Cosmetics Wild & Radiant Palette Review
Inside, there are four highlighting and bronzing powders, and they're much larger in person than they look in photos...definitely a good thing since these can be used all over your body. I really love the versatility of this palette and the fact that it can be used wet or dry gives you a lot of different options.

For example:

1.You can use the shades dry to create a subtle highlight on the high points of your face, or wet them to create a more intense, cream highlight.
2. You can dip a large brush into the pan and glide your favorite shade across your collarbone, down your arms and down the fronts of your legs to create definition.
3. Use them wet to create intense metallic eyeshadows or use them dry for a softer wash of color.
BH Cosmetics Wild & Radiant Palette Review
The shades range from champagne beige to warm golden bronze to a rosy copper bronze. While I can definitely see myself using the lightest shade to highlight, the others are too dark for me to use as a highlight since I'm fair-skinned. The bronzers are too shimmery to use as bronzers all over my face, so I'm limited to using them as eyeshadows or possibly blush toppers. But in my opinion, I think this palette is best suited to those with medium to deeper skin tones. My pal G. over at Nouveau Cheap actually posted reader swatches of this palette on a deeper skin tone and they look absolutely stunning (check that out here).
BH Cosmetics Wild & Radiant Palette Review

BH Cosmetics Wild & Radiant Palette swatches
From top: Top Left shade, Top Right Shade, Bottom Left shade, Bottom Right Shade.
In stark contrast to the photo I just linked to above on Nouveau Cheap, these shades look warmer and darker on my pale skin. But look how beautifully pigmented they are (this is one swipe, no primer)! See how smooth they look? Sometimes swatches can look patchy if they have a powdery or crumbly texture but these are really even, which makes them extremely easy to use and blend.

Also, I wanted to mention that the lightest highlight shade in the palette (top row, right) is a pretty close dupe for Becca's Opal highlighter...it's just a tad lighter. They both have the same smooth, creamy texture, and look almost identical once they're blended on my cheeks (I can't tell the difference!) so if you didn't want to shell out the big bucks for Opal ($38), this entire palette is worth the $8.50 even if you'll only use this one shade.
Overall, I'm kind of bummed that most of the shades in this palette don't work well as highlighters on my skin because I absolutely love the soft, silky texture and the fact that they have the perfect amount of shimmer to create a gorgeous glow. But if you have medium to deep skin, this will be amazing on you. Seriously...go grab one now, you won't be sorry!
You can find the Wild & Radiant Palette at BHCosmetics.com  currently on sale for $8.50.

Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani Blush Palette Review

$

I still had some money left on the Sephora gift card my husband got me for my birthday, and as soon as I saw the Gwen Stefani Blush Palette ($45 at Sephora.com) from Urban Decay, I knew that's what I was going to spend it on. I've been a Gwen Stefani fangirl since No Doubt first came out in the '90's and I'm still obsessed with Tragic Kingdom (it never gets old). But I have also admired how flawless she always looks, so having the opportunity to own products that she created together with one of my favorite makeup brands is kind of a no-brainer for me.
Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani Blush Palette Review
Like the Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette that was released first, this palette has a beautiful graphic design that was created with the same vibe as the decor in Gwen's home. Basically, Urban Decay wanted this to be something that would look great sitting on her vanity and be something she would like looking at every day. So it's not just inspired by her like some celebrity collabs are...she actually had a major hand in the design, how cool is that?

Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani Blush Palette Review
The two Gwen Stefani palettes look very similar on the outside with the main difference being that the blush palette is white and gold while the eyeshadow palette is black and gold. This is a really luxurious-looking palette and it feels very heavy and substantial. I actually prefer the white and gold design of the blush palette over the eyeshadow palette because it doesn't show fingerprints as easily.

Inside, there are six .09 oz blushes. A single Urban Decay Afterglow blush is .23 oz for $26, so basically, you're getting the equivalent of close to 2.5 full-sized blushes in here, which would cost around $65. So the $45 price tag is actually a pretty good deal for the amount of product that's in here.
Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani Blush Palette Review

Inside, there's a full sized mirror with the words, "Magic's in the Makeup" in the lower right corner. The blushes have their names printed above them (I love when brands do that). Overall, it just looks and feels high-end, yet not stuffy. It's probably the coolest-looking piece of makeup I have on my vanity table right now...I love everything about it.

The shades inside are stunning and I love the variety that's in here from cool Barbie pink to warm rose to peach and bronze. I've seen some negative reviews about the shade selection being only suited to light skin tones, but from what I understand, this palette was created for Gwen to actually use herself, so it makes sense that it would be shades that would suit her best. Luckily, I have a very similar skin tone, so this entire palette suits me perfectly...it's not often I can say that!
Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani Blush Palette Review

  • Cherry is a light pink satin...that classic cool-toned Barbie pink, perfect for Spring & Summer.
  • Easy is a deep rose with gold shimmer and one of my favorites in the palette...but I need to use a light hand because it's very pigmented.
  • Angel is champagne-nude shimmer which I use as a blush topper since it's a little too dark to highlight with. Medium to deep skin tones could definitely use it as a highlighter though.
  • Bronzer in Lo-Fi is a soft bronze matte that I actually like to use just under my cheekbones for definition, then top it with a pop of color on the apples of my cheeks. It's a great nude/bronze base.
  • Hush is a gorgeous medium pink with gold shimmer, but it's too light to use on it's own as a blush, so I like to layer it over another blush to create a soft glow.
  • Highlighter in OC is a soft pink with peach shift...it's a really pretty unique shade due to the color shifts in it. On my cheeks, it shows up as a pale peach and I use it on days when I want a really natural glow, but again, it's too dark for me to use as a highlighter and it's also not super shimmery.
The blushes are Urban Decay's long-wearing Afterglow formula and they're soft, blendable and finely-milled. They go on sheer and can be easily built up, but I can see why some of these shades don't show up on darker skin tones, because they're pretty light.
They also layer really well, even though they're all different...I often find myself using three of them at the same time on different areas of my cheeks, then blending them all together.
Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani Blush Palette swatches
From Top: Cherry, Easy, Angel, Lo-Fi, Hush, OC
Overall, I'm obsessed with this palette and love layering the different shades to create so many different looks. Plus the ultra cool packaging just puts it over the edge. This is a great way to try Urban Decay's Afterglow Blushes for less and own an awesome limited edition palette designed by Gwen Stefani!

January Faves and Flops

$

It's the end of the month, so I wanted to do a quick Faves & Flops post to recap some of the best and worst products I tried during the month of January!
All of the products that made my Faves list were reviewed on the blog within the last few weeks, but the majority of the Flops were not reviewed. The main reason for this is because I have a really limited amount of time to write reviews and I try to focus most of my efforts on products I want to recommend to you guys. I wish I could review every product I purchase, but there just aren't enough hours in the day.
That being said, it's also really important to let you know which products didn't work for me because you might be considering buying them and I want you to have all the details so you can decide for yourself if it may or may not work for you. So...I'll be doing an overview of each product here to give you a general idea of how they perform, but if you would like a more detailed post on a specific product, please leave a comment below. If there is a large demand for a review, I'll absolutely make it a priority! :)

Faves:

Milani Everyday Eyes Eyeshadow Palettes, $9.99(see my reviews here and here)- These are amazing quality...super pigmented and blendable, plus the color selections are just gorgeous! It's a high-end quality palette for under $10.

Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani Blush Palette, $45(see my review here)- This palette includes six of Urban Decay's Afterglow Blushes that were designed for Gwen, by Gwen and the shade selection is perfect for those who have light to medium skin tones. I love every single shade in this palette (and use them all) and it's not often I can say that.

Coastal Scents Revealed Smoky Palette, $19.99 (see my review here)- This is the perfect smoky eye palette because it doesn't just contain silvers, blues, charcoal grays and blacks. It has every shade you need to make a more modern smoky eye, such as bronzes, browns, taupes, and plums and the formula is just beautiful...soft and highly pigmented, even the matte shades!

Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation, $10.99 (see my review here)- Finally, a matte foundation my dry skin loves! This foundation is so creamy and soft and leaves my skin looking matte and airbrushed without clinging to dry patches. It also gives medium coverage that lasts all day...I love it!

BH Cosmetics Forever Nude Palette, $11 (see my review here)- I fell in love with this budget-friendly face palette because it contains everything you need to highlight and sculpt your features, including a matte banana powder, beautiful highlight, a universally flattering blush, and two contour shades.

L'Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation, $16.99(see my review here)- I was so happy to see a cushion foundation at the drugstore and this one didn't disappoint! It gives a super-natural, sheer to medium coverage that feels like a second skin and gives a soft, satin finish.

Flops:
Burt's Bees BB Cream $14.99- Don't get me wrong, I love Burt's Bees products, but this one didn't work for me. It claims to be a 9-in-1 product that firms, evens skin tone, and reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles (among other things) but it didn't seem to perform any differently than a basic tinted moisturizer. The color came out looking a bit on the grayish side (could be the sunscreen they use) and it tends to separate inside the tube. It also smells terrible...I can't even describe it. Even despite those things, it wasn't enough coverage for me.

Wet n Wild Ombre Blushes, $4.99 (see my review here)- I love Wet n Wild's regular blushes, but these were a bit of a disappointment due to the fact that they're very sheer...they barely showed up on my fair skin.  It was a shame because they look so pretty!

CoverGirl Plumpify Mascara, $11.99- I had really high hopes for this mascara since it launched at the same time as the CoverGirl TruNaked palettes which I loved. I felt like they really stepped up their game this season, but sadly, this mascara didn't do anything for me. The brush is so large that I couldn't coat my lashes very well and as a result, I didn't get much length or volume. Instead, I got most of it on my eyelids. I can't even comment on how the formula performs because I barely got any of it on my lashes.

Milani Moisture Lock Lip Treatments, $7.99- These lip treatments were one of the products I was most excited about in the Spring 2016 launches, so it was a huge letdown when they didn't work for me. They're flavored lip oils that are infused with lots of nourishing ingredients, and they felt really nice when first applied to my lips. Unfortunately, they sank in quickly and disappeared, leaving my lips feeling dry again. They didn't seem to offer any type of barrier or protection from the elements either. Not to mention, the oversized applicator takes up a large portion of the tube, so when you remove it, the tube is only half full even though the product is brand new. I have to say though, the Coconut and Raspberry formulas I purchased smell absolutely fantastic!

So there's my list! What products did you enjoy using this month? Which ones didn't work for you?

Pur Cosmetics HydraFluid Water Serum Foundation Review

$

Pur Cosmetics recently sent me their new Hydra Fluid Water Serum Foundation ($39 at Ulta.com and Purcosmetics.com) and I couldn't be more excited to review it for you today because...spoiler alert...this is one of the best foundations I've tried in a long time. This Spring it's all about getting dewy, healthy-looking skin that looks natural and this foundation fits in perfectly with that idea. Let's take a look!
Pur Cosmetics HydraFluid Water Serum Foundation Review

HydraFluid Water Serum Foundation contains Pur's Encapsulated Water Complex that delivers water from the Swiss Alps deep into your skin. It also contains Pur's Ceretin Complex, which helps to smooth, firm and lift the skin's appearance. Finally, Vitamin E helps to soothe the skin and provide antioxidant benefits.
The super lightweight formula creates a seamless, barely-there finish while still offering medium coverage. I have to admit I was skeptical about that since other serum foundations I've tried in the past offered very light coverage, but I was pleasantly surprised by the coverage this gave me.
Pur Cosmetics HydraFluid Water Serum Foundation Review
HydraFluid has a really unique clear tip that dispenses the foundation one drop at a time, and I much prefer this method to a dropper because it's not nearly as messy. This foundation is very thin, like a serum, but it still contains a lot of pigment so you only need a couple of drops to cover your entire face. The tip allows you to slowly release one drop at a time, rather than having it run out everywhere. When I first saw the tube, I thought "this is so small, it's only going to last me a few weeks" but once I realized how little of this product you actually need to use, it made a lot more sense. I use three drops to cover my face and blend down my neck. Then I go back in and add a little bit more in areas where I need more coverage.
Pur Cosmetics HydraFluid Water Serum Foundation Review

The texture of this foundation might be one of my favorites ever. It's not as thin as the L'oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder foundation (the one in the square glass bottle) but it's not as thick as a regular liquid formula. It has a super silky, barely there feel that really becomes one with your skin and feels like you have nothing on. It doesn't feel creamy like a traditional liquid foundation or oily like some serum foundations...it has a watery consistency that's really quite unique. For this reason, I think that all skin types will enjoy this whether you're oily or dry. My skin is like the Sahara and this foundation made my skin look dewy and plump without clinging to dry patches or sitting in fine lines. It just looks like skin! I also think that oily skin will appreciate how light and airy this feels...it hydrates without adding any oil or heaviness. It's a rare thing to find a foundation that will work will all skin types, but this one truly does.
Pur Cosmetics sent me all five shades of the HydraFluid to swatch for you, which was really nice of them. I wear the Light shade, which is the lightest option (there's no fair shade) and it's just a touch darker than my wintertime complexion but it still works just fine. These all seem to be very neutral-toned, not leaning too warm or too cool, which is great since there are only five shades and they need to be able to match well to everyone. I have really cool-toned skin and can't wear a lot of foundations because they're too yellow. This one isn't yellow or pink and it helps to tone down the pink in my skin.
pur cosmetics hydrafluid serum foundation swatches

HydraFluid Water Serum Foundation gave me really nice medium coverage (even though it feels water-thin and I was really expecting it to be more like a tinted moisturizer). In the photo below, I'm wearing only the HydraFluid foundation on my skin...I added a second layer under my eyes since I didn't really need concealer that day and just wanted some lighter coverage. A little bit of the redness on my nose still peeks through, as well as a few freckles, but overall it made my skin look really smooth and even. It gives a really fresh, flawless, natural result and I'm totally in love with it!
Wearing Pur Cosmetics HydraFluid Water Serum Foundation in Light
Overall, this is my ideal foundation for everyday wear. I still love thicker formulas for when I want to cover up everything but this does a great job at hiding the redness and discoloration that plagues me on most days and manages to look and feel like I'm wearing nothing. It's the perfect no-makeup makeup!

HydraFluid launches in Ulta and Kohls stores on February 7th (and is already available online at Ulta.com and Purcosmetics.com).

Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer Review

$

I spotted the new Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer ($14.99 at Ulta.com) on a recent trip to Kmart and was super excited because I had seen it on their website but none of the drugstores near me were carrying it. It wasn't cheap at $14.49 (Kmart price), but there's a $4 instant coupon on the package that you can use at the register that helps out quite a bit. I don't really own too many bronzers, as they tend to look very orange on my pale skin, but I do like to use them sometimes in the summer when I have a little more color to my face. Still, I may be a sucker for packaging but this one looks so pretty and tropical and the name "Butter Bronzer" makes me think it'll be perfect for my dry skin. So keep on reading to find out what I think!
Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer packaging
Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer contains Murumuru Butter, Cupuacu Butter and Tucuma Butter from the Amazon and is packed with essential fatty acids and pro-vitamins to leave your skin feeling hydrated and soft. It feels very silky and buttery to the touch...almost creamy! It also contains soft-focus pigments and ultra-refined pearl that gives just a little bit of a glow that I can only see in direct sunlight.  Otherwise, it appears matte in most light which is a relief since I'm not a fan of shimmery bronzers.
It comes in an adorable tropical-looking compact complete with palm trees and bright colors. As soon as you open the top, you catch a whiff of pina coladas and the beach and it's quite strong. I happen to love the scent but if you're sensitive to fragrance, you'll definitely want to steer clear of this one. It's loaded.

Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer review
In the bottom of the compact, there's a mirror and a strange little sponge applicator that Physicians Formula claims is perfect for applying such a creamy formula. But it's not that creamy...it's still a powder after all. Personally, I found that the sponge applied the bronzer a little bit streaky on me so I switched to a brush and it worked much better.
Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer Murumuru

There are two shades, Light Bronze (which is a peachy bronze) and Bronze (which is just a tad darker and has a cooler tint...there are no orange-y shades here!). Personally, I have found my holy grail bronzer! Yes, it's super light but it's perfect for my purposes which is to warm up my skin just a little bit. I don't self tan so I can't use anything too dark on my face or I'll be forced to blend it all over my body (at least the parts that stick out of clothing)...ain't nobody got time for that! This adds just enough color to give me a slightly sunkissed, healthy glow and I just have to blend it down my neck a little bit and it fades perfectly into the rest of my skin.
The texture is divine...I love how soft and creamy it is. It doesn't cake or accentuate pores and fine lines. It also lasted all day on me without oxidizing or turning funky. It's just beautiful!
Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer swatches
Overall, I'm so excited to actually have a bronzer in my collection that I can wear everyday to warm up my sad winter complexion without looking obvious. I'm talking holy grail bronzer here! I may pick up the darker shade for the summer since it didn't actually look all that dark...I'll definitely swatch it for you guys if I do!

Lorac The Getaway Eye/Cheek Palette Review & Swatches

I recently picked up the new Lorac The Getaway Eye/Cheek Palette ($20 Exclusively at Nordstrom) and I wanted to share my first impression and swatches with you so that you can decide whether you'd like to purchase it before it sells out. Last year's palette sold out really fast and since it's limited edition, it won't be back once it's gone (although you might see it on HauteLook at some point like last year's palette). Let's take a look!
Lorac The Getaway Palette Review & Swatches
The Getaway palette comes in a beautifully designed box that has pops of red, green, pink and gold...it's really eye catching.

Lorac The Getaway Eye/Cheek Palette Review & Swatches
The Getaway palette contains 6 eyeshadows, 2 blushes, 1 highlighter and 1 bronzer. I wanted to point out that it's made in China while other Lorac palettes such as the Pro Palettes are made in the USA. I've heard a lot of complaints about the quality of the Lorac palettes that made in China palettes vs. the ones that are made here. I started to get nervous and assumed the worst because this palette is half the price of the ones in the regular Lorac lineup...but thankfully, I had no reason to be!
lorac the getaway palette eye and cheek palette review

This palette is just beautiful to look at and is going to be perfect for my Spring and Summer travels. It'll be nice to pack one palette for a weekend trip that I can use for my entire face, especially since I can see myself using every single shade in this palette. I love that it contains such wearable shades but still has a few pops of color and smoky shades too. It also has a nice mix of mattes and shimmers so it's just a really versatile palette all around.
lorac the getaway palette review
The top row has a beautiful champagne highlighter, a shimmery light pinky taupe and darker taupe, a matte chocolate brown, and a gorgeous rosy pink blush with gold shimmer.

The bottom row has a matte black, matte deep blue, shimmery gold, a matte peach blush, and a matte bronzer.
Lorac Getaway Palette

I swatched all the shades on bare skin with no primer. These are one swipe so you can see that the great pigmentation we expect from Lorac is present in this palette. The only shade I had even a little trouble with was the matte black shade, which swatched a little bit patchy. The rest are buttery and soft and pick up easily with a brush. The matte shades have very little fallout while the shimmers do have some...totally not a dealbreaker for me though. They pick up so easily with a brush, it's easy to overdo it...especially with the blushes. On my skin, the eyeshadow and blush lasts all day and was still easy to see when I went to wash my face before bed.

Overall, whether you're a Lorac fan or haven't tried anything from the brand yet, The Getaway palette is not one to be missed, especially for $20. You're getting great quality and a beautifully edited palette that's perfect for the Spring and Summer season.

Promise Organic Coconut Body Wash & Argan Body Lotion Review

$

I've been pretty much obsessed with Promise Organic's bath and body products for a few months now and I thought it was about time I shared my thoughts with you guys, especially since they're BOGO 50% off at CVS right now!
I first spotted them back in the fall and had some CVS Extra Bucks to spend, so I decided to try them out.  The weather was just starting to change and my skin was feeling dry and tight so I picked up the Nourishing Coconut Milk Body Wash ($6.99) and the Ultra Moisturizing Argan Creme Body Lotion ($8.99). Let's take a look!
promise organic coconut argan review
Promise Organic's products are 100% natural, dermatologist tested and paraben free. They've also been clinically proven to moisturize and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
They have two lines, Coconut for combination to normal skin and Argan for normal to dry skin.

One of the things that really made me sit up and take notice was the fact that the first ingredient in all of their products is Aloe Vera, and not water. I can't tell you how many skincare products, both drugstore and high-end contain mostly water, with the beneficial ingredients lower on the list. I was really impressed by that!

The Nourishing Coconut Milk Body Wash with Cupuacu Butter ($6.99) has a mild coconut scent that I absolutely love and it's so creamy! It makes my skin feel so soft after using it with no dry, tight feeling.

My Favorite Budget-Friendly Highlighters

I admit that I have a weakness when it comes to highlighters, and I've been collecting them for a long time...since way before "strobing" became a thing. The first one I bought was The Balm's Mary Lou Manizer, followed by Benefit Watts Up and Becca Opal. At the time, there weren't that many drugstore options, but lately there are a ton of amazing highlighters under $10! So whether you're into palettes, creams, or powders, I've got you covered...here's a round-up of some of my favorites.

Highlighting Palettes:

Makeup Revolution Radiant Lights Palette ($12.28)- Okay so this one is slightly over $10 but it's one of my favorites so I had to include it. This is a very close dupe of the Hourglass Ambient Lighting palette (see my comparison review here) and I might like the formula of these even better...they're so soft, silky, and blend into the skin beautifully.

Profusion Studio Highlight Palette ($5.99)- So many gorgeous highlight shades in one palette from white pearl to rose gold to golden bronze, you're sure to find at least a few that you like. Plus the pigmentation is amazing (see my review and swatches here). This is one of those bargains that's just too good to pass up.

Elf Illuminating Palette ($6)- This is another Hourglass dupe and they give a softer glow rather than in in-your-face highlight (see my review here). So if that's your thing, this is an amazing pick at only $6.

Powder Highlighters:

Hard Candy Tiki Bronzer ($9)- Don't be fooled by the name...this isn't a bronzer even on my fair skin. It's actually a very close (maybe identical) dupe of The Balm's Mary Lou Manizer (see my review and comparison swatches here).

Makeup Revolution Goddess of Love Highlighter ($7.66)- This is a gorgeous baked champagne colored highlighter that takes on a pink-violet shift in certain light. It's so beautiful (and the heart-shaped packaging is super cute too!). See my review here.

Elf Baked Eyeshadow in Enchanted ($3)- Yes, this is an eyeshadow, but I don't let that stop me when I'm searching for the perfect highlighter. In this case, it ended up being an exact dupe for Becca's Champagne Pop (see my comparison swatches here). You're welcome! :)

Elf Baked Blush in Pinktastic ($3)- Again, this one's not marketed as a highlighter either, but this blush is the perfect soft golden shade with a hint of pink and lots of shimmer. See my review and swatches here.

Elf Baked Highlighter in Pink Diamonds ($3)- This is a beautiful soft pink highlight, sort of like the powder version of Benefit's High Beam. It can also be used wet for more intensity.

Cream Highlighters:

Colourpop Super Shock Cheek Highlighters ($8)- These have such a beautiful texture that blends easily and feels like silk on the skin. The come in 20 shades and create that dewy sheen everyone is looking for. (See my review here).

L.A. Girl Velvet Contour Sticks ($5)- These creamy sticks come in three highlight shades as well as blush and contour versions. There's a matte highlighter, plus champagne and warm golden shades. I love the easy stick format...just glide on and go! See my review and swatches here.

Flower Beauty Glisten Up Highlighter Chubby ($10)- This highlighter stick comes in three shades...a cooler champagne, warm gold and warm bronze. I love how creamy and blendable they are, and again the chubby stick format is super easy! See my review and swatches here

Sonia Kashuk Chic Luminosity Highlighter Stick ($10.99)- I found this at Target one day when I was looking for a dupe for Benefit Watts Up. It looked similar in the store but when I got it home, it was definitely more golden. Still, I love this color so much! See my review here (sorry for the bad pics...it's over 2 years old).

City Color Glowing Complexion Illuminating Cream ($6.99)- I picked this up on a whim at Five Below for only $5 but I'm so glad I did. This is one of the prettiest highlighters I own and the blendable cream formula really pops on my cheekbones. See my review and swatches here.

So there you have it! Thirteen highlighter options at (around) $10 and under. What are your favorite highlighters? I'd love to hear about them!

Algenist Reveal Color Correcting Primer & Concealer Review

When it comes to skincare, Algenist is one of my favorite brands. I've been using their Retinol Firming and Lifting Serum and the Advanced Anti-Aging Repairing Oil and they've made a big difference in the way my skin has aged. You can't always tell how well a product is working while you're using them, but then I'll look back at photos of myself from five years ago and I feel like my skin looks better now at 38 years old than it did at 33! That's proof enough for me.

So being such a huge Algenist fan, I was really excited I was when QVC contacted me and asked if they could send me a few products from Algenist's brand new color line, Reveal to try. This line launched on QVC recently and uses naturally occurring colorful algae to color correct your skin. The line includes color-correcting drops and a serum foundation as well as a 6-in-1 Color Correcting Concealer and Color Correcting Radiant Primer which I'll be reviewing for you today. Let's take a look!

Algenist Reveal Color Correcting Radiant Primer ($36) is a tinted primer that contains multicolored algae to even out the look of your skin, plus microalgae oil and alguronic acid (which are in Algenist's skincare products) so it's really your primer, color corrector, and skincare all in one!
To give you a good idea of what this looks like with the color-correcting algae in it, I put a drop on white paper and swirled it around. On the left, you can see all of the different colors throughout the primer and on the right I continued to blend it a bit more and it starts to blend together into a light tint. They disappear all together once it's fully blended.
There are four different color correcting pigments in the Reveal line and in this primer, they all work together to correct dullness, redness, sallow complexions and darkness/discolorations.

  • Pink: helps cover the appearance of dull-looking skin
  • Green: helps cover the appearance of redness
  • Blue: helps cover the appearance of sallow skin
  • Apricot: helps cover the appearance of dark, discolored skin
Unlike heavy silicone primers, this one feels lighter and more creamy, like a regular moisturizer. On my skin, it starts out white and the color correcting pigments blend together to give a beautiful tint that warms up my skintone, evens it out, and adds a radiant glow.

Also, because this contains the alguronic acid and microalgae oil that Algenist skincare is famous for, this primer doubles as an anti-aging serum. In clinical studies, women noticed more even skin tone and brighter skin in just ten days after using only this primer. So it's actually working on improving the look of your skin on the inside while it's cosmetically correcting it on the outside. Also, you might think that $36 is expensive for a primer, but when you consider that it's also an Algenist anti-aging treatment, it's actually a bargain...especially compared to the cost of an Algenist moisturizer or serum on it's own.
It dries to a beautiful matte finish and perfectly preps my skin for makeup. I find that I need less foundation when I use this and it goes on so much smoother, plus the primer feels like it's hydrating my skin at the same time. It doesn't have that suffocating feel that silicone primers do, so if you're looking for something lighter, this is a great option!
Algenist Reveal 6-in-1 Color Correcting Concealer($25.75) is a high-coverage concealer that covers just about any imperfection you can imagine, while color correcting at the same time.

When I first tried this, I used it under my eyes because other than minor dark circles, I don't have any spots to cover. While it brightened my eye area and covered every trace of darkness, it felt very thick and left a bit of a cakey appearance. I assumed that my dry skin was to blame because a lot of concealers tend to look cakey on me for that reason. Then, I noticed on the QVC website, the description actually says that this isn't recommended for the under eye-area so that makes a lot more sense. I can see this being used mainly as a spot treatment for marks on your face or body and it will cover absolutely everything. It's like an industrial strength formula! I don't have tattoos but I feel like this would even cover those as well. I like to warm it up on the back of my hand first (you only need a tiny dot) and then pat it onto my skin. If you have dark spots from hyperpigmentation, acne scars or blemishes, this will make them disappear.

Algenist Reveal 6-in-1 Concealer in Light
Overall, I'm really impressed by the new Reveal line from Algenist! The primer does it all between prepping your skin for makeup, hydrating, color correcting and treating the signs of aging...it's my new favorite formula. I'm a little bummed that I can't use the concealer under my eyes, especially since I don't have anything else to conceal. But I'll keep it on hand for when the occasional blemish rears it's head. Those with oilier skin types may be able to use it under their eyes without a problem, but if you have dry skin like me, you'll probably want to keep it away from that area (I tested it on other parts of my face and it was fine).
You may also want to try the new Reveal Serum Foundation and Color Correcting Drops! I saw a presentation on them the other day and they look fabulous.
You can shop the entire Algenist Reveal line at QVC.com.

*Thank you so much to QVC for sending these products for review. All opinions are my own and I was not paid to write this post.*

Flower Beauty E.E. Erase Everything Ultimate Foundation Review

In my eyes, Drew Barrymore's Flower Beauty line can seriously do no wrong. Her products are high quality, made in the USA and cruelty free. I love the fact that they spend money on the putting the best ingredients into the products instead of spending it on advertising, and also that Drew herself is so involved in the creation of the products. I've been busy testing a slew of new Flower makeup that just launched for Spring 2016 (see my post here for all of the details) and I'm so excited about this one in particular I just couldn't wait to share it with you!
It's called E.E. Erase Everything Ultimate Foundation ($12.98 at Walmart stores), but it's not really just a foundation...it's something totally new that I've never seen before. That's another thing I love about Flower Beauty...they have the coolest new formulas that no one else has (remember these powder-to-cream blushes? I'm obsessed!) So keep on reading and I'll explain everything...
Flower Beauty E.E. Erase Everything review

E.E. Erase Everything comes in a tube with a brush attached to it, which is something new to me. The idea is that you squeeze the tube until the product comes up into the bristles, then brush it onto your skin. I like to start out that way, using the brush to apply it all over my face but I end up using my fingers to massage it in because it's much faster and the product absorbs better.
Flower Beauty E.E. Erase Everything review

It comes in five shades: Sheer Tint (clear), Porcelain Tint, Ivory Tint, Buff Tint, and Honey Tint. Honestly, these are so sheer, you don't have to worry to much about an exact color match. I would go so far as to say this is more of a primer/EE Cream rather than a foundation. Unless you have perfect skin, you will probably want more coverage and will apply a foundation on top of this anyway. And if you do have perfect skin, this probably won't appeal to you because it's meant to fill in uneven texture, pores and fine lines while light-diffusing pigments blur imperfections.

You can choose the Sheer Tint, which goes on totally clear if you don't want or need an extra boost of color (if you're wearing a full coverage foundation, for example), but I like the colored ones because they do a good job of evening out my skin tone and hiding a little bit of the redness in my skin. This creates the perfect base so that when I add a medium coverage foundation on top I get a more flawless result, almost as if I were wearing more of a full coverage foundation, without the thick, cakey feeling.
Flower Beauty E.E. Erase Everything packaging

E.E. Erase Everything is super thick and feels like a balm...but it's totally non-greasy and dries to a beautiful soft matte finish. When you're squeezing the product out into the brush, be careful not to release too much...go slow because you only need a little bit.
Flower Beauty E.E. Erase Everything brush
On the skin, it feels so velvety and soft, like you just applied a rich night cream- just without the heavy greasy feeling. It somehow sinks right in and fills in lines and pores leaving your face feeling smooth and even. I hate to even use this analogy, but it works like spackle on a wall (in a good way!).

If I'm having a good skin day, I can get away with using the colored version (I got Ivory Tint) by itself with a little concealer under my eyes and around my nose. It gives my skin a flawless texture so even though it doesn't cover everything (not flawless in that way) it makes my face look so smooth and soft, like it's been airbrushed.

The Ivory Tint shade, which is the second-to-lightest shade is a little too yellow for me and I probably should have gone with the porcelain but it's sheer so it blends in just fine. The Sheer Tint goes on white but turns clear as you blend it into your skin.

E.E. Erase Everything in Ivory Tint and Sheer Tint
Overall, I'm blown away by the Flower Beauty E.E. cream. It's unlike anything else I own and I love, love, love the way it makes my skin look. For me, it's the perfect base for foundation...even in the winter when my skin is at it's driest, layering this underneath my foundation prevents it from caking, clinging to dry patches and settling into fine lines. I feel like I've been searching for a primer with this super-thick, balm-like texture forever! I'm curious to see how those of you with oily skin get along with this one because it's very thick and feels hydrating...but at the same time, it dries matte so it doesn't feel greasy. If you try it, let me know how you like it!

You can find Flower Beauty E.E. Erase Everything Ultimate Foundation at select Walmart stores (it's not online yet).

I have some exciting news for all of you matte liquid lipstick fans...a new drugstore option is here and it's only $2.99!!! A few lovely ladies on Instagram spotted the new Jordana Sweet Cream Matte Liquid Lipsticks at Kmart and I have some photos and swatches to share with you.
I was just at Kmart last week and spotted a bunch of new things (see that post here) but these must have arrived since then. I definitely have to go back and check them out now because I have always been impressed with Jordana products. Their Best Lash Extreme mascara is one of my holy grail formulas and I also love their lip crayons. I'm hoping that these new lipsticks aren't too drying, but I guess we'll see!

From this photo below from @swatchesgalore on Instagram, it appears that there are ten shades, but don't quote me on that because the photo is cut off on the right hand side.

Next, my pal @themakeupblock on Instagram posted swatches of the two shades she bought...Creme Brulee and Tiramisu. She said that they smell exactly like the LipKits by Kylie and Milani Amore Mattes and that they're super pigmented and even with one swatch!
