My Fitness & Diet Routine, Tips & Tricks

It might sound a bit cliche, but when the new year rolls around, I always ramp up my exercise routine and start watching my calorie intake again. I usually get sidetracked around Halloween when there's tons of chocolate lying around and then comes Thanksgiving and Christmas and at that point, I figure, "why bother?" I might as well just indulge! But I've probably gained close to 10 pounds since October and my jeans aren't buttoning so well (leggings it is!). So...I recently purchased some new fitness equipment and figured I'd share that with you guys as well as talk about the things I've been using that work for me. Let's take a look!

My Exercise Gear:
Confession time...I hate to work out. I'm a total lazy bones so I try to find things I can do at home while I'm watching T.V. I used to have a gym membership, but it's not practical at the moment since I have a 2 year old to care for all day. Once he's in school, I'll probably go back, but for now I need equipment and routines I can do at home while he's playing next to me.

Fitbit Flex

Fitbit Flex- I got a Fitbit Flex last year ($99.99 at Target). I wanted to make sure I was getting in the recommended 10,000 steps a day and it really motivates me to walk more. It's almost like a game I play with myself to see if I can get to 10,000 by the end of the night. In the summer, my son and I took walks around the neighborhood and would go to the playground so I would easily get 15-20k steps a day. But now that it's freezing outside, getting to 10k is more of a challenge.

If you're not fond of the rubbery band as a wrist accessory, you can always do what I did and find a bracelet-style holder. There are tons of affordable options on Etsy or there are luxury options such as this double wrap one I got from Tory Burch ($175). You just take the Fitbit out of the rubber wristband and place it inside the metal section of this bracelet. Most people think it's a Tory Burch bracelet but have no idea that my Fitbit is inside!
Tory Burch Fitbit Double Wrap Bracelet

Ok, so don't laugh but I have aThighmaster! Actually, two of them. Despite being a total 80's fad, these babies really work! I ordered this kit last year ($39.99 at SuzanneSomers.com) and couldn't be happier with it...there's the original Thighmaster which tones your inner thighs and you also get the ButtMaster which tones your outer thighs, hips and butt (like the hip adductor machine at the gym!). These give my legs a major workout and I like to do them while I'm sitting on the couch at night watching TV with my husband. But the best part is, these can also be used to tone your arms. They come with a guide and DVD with instructions on how to work pretty much every part of your body. I especially love using the original thighmaster to tone my triceps since that's a trouble spot for me.  If you don't have a lot of room in your home for equipment, these are a great solution.

Thighmaster

Another great little exercise machine is this Mini Stepper from Sunny Health. I got it at Brookstone about two years ago and it's an amazing workout! Instead of just going straight up and down, the foot pedals go out slightly to each side so it really works your outer thighs (another big trouble spot for me). It also comes with resistance bands so you can get an upper body workout at the same time. I jump on this a few times a day whenever I have 10 minutes and crank out 500 steps. It really adds up over the course of the day and is super easy because I don't have to commit to a long workout. I will say this...if you're not used to a stepper, it's a pretty difficult workout at first. To start with, I could only do about 2 minutes (100 steps) and my legs were on fire! But now, I can do about 1,000 steps at once before I get really tired.
Sunny Health Mini Stepper

I just ordered this InMotion Mini Elliptical with Convertible Pedals from QVC ($121 or $24.20 on 5 Easy Pays) and it's supposed to arrive tomorrow...I can't wait! I've always wanted an elliptical machine like the ones at the gym but we don't really have the space to put a big, bulky piece of equipment (until we finish the basement, that is). This looked like such a cool alternative...not only can you do a standing elliptical workout, but it's also a sitting workout! All you have to do is turn the machine around and the pedals convert, so you can use it as more of an exercise bike. I wish I had it when I was working at a desk job all day...I totally would have used this! From the description, it looks like the pedals are situated in such a way that your knees won't come up too far and hit the underside of the desk, so it's actually made for people to bring to work. Personally, I plan to use it both standing and also sitting on the couch, watching T.V. (are you sensing a theme yet? Haha). There's a great video on the QVC website that shows it in action here

InMotion Mini Elliptical

Other Exercises-

In addition to the equipment I have, there are other exercises I like to do throughout the day, whenever I get a few minutes.

Vacuum Pose- This is a yoga pose that I read about a while ago and what intrigued me was the claim that it can take 1.75 inches off your stomach in only a month. Basically, you pull your stomach in (pretend you're pulling your belly button back toward your spine) exhale all the way, and hold it for 15 seconds. The goal is to do this for 5 minutes a day...it doesn't have to be all at once. I usually do it 4 times in a row (1 minute of exercise plus breaks in between) and break it up over the day. I do it everywhere...waiting on line, sitting on the floor playing with my son, lying in bed, etc. It's so easy and it works miracles! I'm not a fan of crunches (or any other ab exercises for that matter) but this is one I can easily do and you see results quickly. It targets the inner abdominal muscles which can get weak with poor posture and make your stomach look pushed out. Toning this inner muscle won't give you a six pack (you need to train the outer ones for that, and also burn fat with cardio), but this does give your belly a much flatter look because over time, that inner muscle stays pulled in, rather than pushed out. Click here for the How-To

Standing Counter Push-ups-  Sometimes when I'm in the kitchen, I'll sneak in a few push ups using the counter. They're a little easier than doing push ups on the floor, but still make my arm muscles sore so I know it's doing something!

Hula Workout- This is another quick little workout for abs that only takes 10 minutes (and it's all standing work...no crunches!) I saw it in Fitness Magazine...click here for the routine.

Claudia Schiffer Perfectly Fit Workouts- When I had more time, I loved these Claudia Schiffer workouts from the 90's. I still have them on VHS, but now they're on YouTube which is much easier! I love that they target either legs, arms or abs so I used to just rotate them throughout the week. They're super effective...your muscles will be sore afterwards! I need to make the time for these again...I miss them:

Diet Tricks

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the healthiest eater. I love carbs and chocolate and don't plan to give them up! Still, there are little tricks I use to make sure I can eat the things I like and still lose weight.

My fitness Pal- This app for my phone is the biggest lifesaver! I use it to log my food intake throughout the day and it has a barcode scanner so you don't have to search for the food you're eating...just scan it! (Unless of course it's a piece of fruit or something with no barcode). You just plug in details like your current height and weight, plus your goal weight and it calculates your calorie budget for the day. This helped me lose all of my baby weight because it makes you accountable for everything you eat. I would sometimes reach for a cookie and then stop because I don't want to have to enter it into the app and watch my calorie count go up. It really makes you mindful. Also, if you have a FitBit, you can link it to the My Fitness Pal app, and the more steps you take, the more your calorie budget rises! You can see here in this screenshot from today that so far, I've eaten more than half of my 1,200 calorie budget, BUT I earned an additional 263 calories from walking 4,717 steps. By dinnertime, I'll probably have earned another 250 calories or so. It's really motivating to see that your exercise allows you to eat an extra snack or two!

Drinking Water- You probably know that drinking water keeps you hydrated, but did you know that it also helps boost your metabolism? A study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism found that drinking water (about 17oz) increases metabolic rate by 30 percent in healthy men and women. Plus, drinking it before a meal can help you to eat less by making you feel full.

Scoop out Breads-  A little trick I've been doing for years is to scoop out the inside of bagels and sandwich rolls. I just pick out the squishy centers with my fingers, leaving the outer shell intact (which is my favorite part anyway). This can take a 200 calorie bagel or roll down to 100 calories, but you don't really notice a big difference...it tastes the same and tricks your brain into thinking that you're eating the whole thing. That way, I can have a bagel for breakfast if I'm craving one, or have my turkey sandwich on a roll instead of plain bread without the guilt.
I'm a big dessert eater, so I never want to deprive myself of an after-dinner treat. I have a particular weakness for ice cream, and I know that if I sit down with a container of Ben & Jerry's Half Baked I'll eat the whole thing. So I scoop some out into a bowl to limit the amount I eat, or I grab an ice cream bar, such as Good Humor Chocolate Eclair bars (200 calories each).  That way, I can't overdo it!

Finally, I tend to crave food all day long...I'm a total grazer. So I needed to find simple snacks that satisfy my cravings for either sweet or salty that are low in calories. Some of my favorites are dill pickles, string cheese, yogurt, chocolate rice cakes, and pizzelle cookies.

So that's about it! What are your favorite diet and exercise tips? I'd love to hear about them!

BH Cosmetics Sale + Haul

BH Cosmetics is having an amazing sale right now, and I ended up hauling a few items that I've had my eye on for a while!

The first thing I had to put in my cart was the Carli Bybel palette. I know I'm a little late to the party, but it kept selling out in the fall and the waiting list was a mile long. It's finally back in stock and only $12.50 (reg. $20). The highlighters look so gorgeous and these shadows look like shades I would wear every single day.

The next thing I picked up was the Wild & Radiant Palette. I know...I don't need any more highlighters but it's only $6.50 right now (reg. $22!) and the reviews I've seen on this are fantastic.
bh cosmetics wild & radiant paletteThe last thing I ended up hauling was the Forever Nude Sculpt & Glow Contouring Kit. It's only $8.50 right now (reg. $23!). It comes in a Light/Medium version (which is what I got) and a Medium/Deep version and contains two contour shades, one blush, a highlight and a banana powder for setting under the eyes. This is another palette I've had my eye on and I'm super excited to get it for less than $10!

I've seen some new NYX Spring 2016 products popping up at Ulta recently, but the entire Spring line is now available on the NYX Website, including the Strobe of Genius palette I've had my eye on since I saw a sneak peek on Instagram a while back. Let's take a look...
There are some products I didn't even know were coming out, such as the Pro Foundation Mixer (to create your own unique shade) and the Cheek Contour Duos. I'm having anxiety right now because I want to try it all and I just can't!

What are you thinking of getting? Have you tried anything from the NYX Spring line yet? I'm still deciding...

The L'oreal La Palette Noir is Here

Everyone seems to be doing smoky palettes these days and now L'oreal has jumped on the bandwagon with the La Palette Noir, available now at Ulta Beauty

So far it looks like this palette is limited to blue and gray shades, which is a bit disappointing! More recent smoky palettes such as the Urban Decay Naked Smoky or the Coastal Scents Revealed Smoky included browns and purples in addition to the "classic" gray and blue smoky shades. I feel that a modern smoky eye can be created with browns, purples, and even olive green shades so this seems a bit old fashioned...at least to me.

What are your thoughts? Would you buy it?

Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation Review

Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft Matte Hydrating Foundation is brand new for Spring 2016 and is my highest requested review at the moment! It claims to be a gel-whipped formula with a soft, velvety matte finish. While most matte foundations feel drying on the skin, this one promises to be a hydrating matte formula. All I can say is Thank YOU Maybelline! I've never found a matte foundation that I can wear because I have really dry skin, so when I saw this at Bed, Bath & Beyond, it was like the heavens opened up and the angels started singing. And if you have oily skin, have no fear because the moisture in this formula won't clog you up.
So is this as comfortable to wear as it claims to be? Keep on reading to find out...
maybelline dream velvet foundation

I found this at Bed, Bath & Beyond for $8.99 but the price can vary depending on which store you go to. BBB is usually the cheapest, followed by Walmart and Target, and then the drugstores. Ulta Beauty has it for $10.99. I'm sure at some point it'll go on sale somewhere, if you're willing to hold out for a little while.
I ended up purchasing the Dream Blender sponge that goes along with this (and is sold separately) at CVS for $8.99. I was kicking myself because I believe it was between $5 and $6 at Bed, Bath & Beyond.
Looking at the ingredient list, the formula appears to be mostly water, followed by silicones and glycerin which is a humectant that pulls water from the air and draws it to your skin, locking in moisture. The tube is pretty small at only 1 fl oz, but I really like the packaging...it's a lot better than a glass bottle!

The Dream Blender sponge is similar to a Beauty Blender, except it has a little handle to hold which is pretty genius. It can be used dry for heavier coverage or damp for sheer coverage. It feels denser and more firm than the Beauty Blender or the Real Techniques Complexion Sponge and I find that it gives a really nice, smooth finish. You can blend larger areas of your face with the sides of the sponge, and the tip is meant to get into smaller spaces around the nose and under the eyes. I think it does a really nice job of applying and blending all types of foundation!

Dream Velvet comes in eight shades, and I ended up choosing a shade that was too dark for me, Creamy Natural (the fifth shade from the lightest). The lighter shades seemed like they might be too yellow and I have cooler undertones, so I went by the swatches on the display. This shade definitely isn't too warm but it would probably suit my summer complexion a lot better.

The texture is like a whipped mousse...it's soft, velvety and blends into the skin beautifully, giving a soft, airbrushed appearance. Oddly, despite the blurring effect, it seems to actually accentuate the pores on my cheeks and around my nose. Thankfully, applying a primer and a pore treatment like Benefit's The Porefessional underneath this seems to fix the issue for me.
I would say the coverage is medium and the finish is definitely a "soft matte" meaning there's no sheen at all, but it also doesn't look dry, dull or flat. It didn't cling to any dry patches or flakes at all, which was really impressive, considering mousse foundations almost always do that to me. It felt comfortable all day and wore for about 7-8 hours on me. Oily skin types may see less wear time unless you set it with powder (I didn't set it with anything).

Overall, I'm absolutely loving this foundation...Maybelline really hit it out of the park with this one! I'm really digging the soft focus, flawless look this gives my skin and I'm so happy to be able to wear a matte foundation for the first time ever. I highly recommend this to anyone, oily or dry...it's amazing.

L'oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation Review

L'Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation is brand new for Spring 2016 and is one of the top products you've been asking me to review lately. So...since I've been testing it out for about a month now, I'm ready to share my thoughts with you guys! I found this at Bed, Bath & Beyond for about $13.50, but it's selling at Ulta Beauty and Drugstore.com for about $16.99...definitely on the more expensive side for a drugstore foundation. Still, if you're willing to wait, I'm sure it'll be going on sale at some point, or there will likely be coupons you can use too.
L'oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation Review

If you're not familiar with Cushion Compact foundations, they originated in Korea and have recently made their way over here to the U.S. It's basically a very clever way to make liquid foundation portable! So if you like the convenience of throwing a compact into your purse, but don't like powder or cream foundations, this is for you.
L'oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation Review

When you open the pretty rose gold compact, you'll find a mirror inside the lid and a sponge sitting in the upper tray, just like the Korean versions.
L'oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation Review

Then, when you flip the tray open, you'll see a sponge inside that's been soaked with liquid foundation. It's truly a genius design, because you'd never be able to pour liquid foundation into a compact and expect it not to leak out everywhere, but the sponge holds it all in place!
The idea is to simply take the puff they give you and press it into the sponge, then tap it onto your face, like you're applying pressed powder.
L'oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation Review

Alternatively, you can use a flat-top foundation brush to apply this too. I use this one from Beauty Junkees (see my review here)...it's my favorite face brush because it gives such a soft, even finish. But I honestly don't mind using the puff that comes with this foundation because it works really well too. You really don't need a brush to apply this, especially if you're on the go- I just figured I'd use the brush while I was home because I love it so much. If you do use a brush, just keep in mind that you only need to touch it to the sponge...if you use too much pressure, it'll completely saturate the bristles.
L'oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation Review

Like most cushion foundations, the texture of this is lightweight and the coverage is sheer to medium, depending on how much you build it up. It melts into your skin and doesn't accentuate any dry patches, lines or wrinkles. It creates a smooth, even finish that's not dewy or matte...it's more of a satin finish. If you've ever tried L'oreal's True Match Lumi foundation, it's like a "light" version of that. It has the beautiful finish and blendability I love so much about that foundation but with a bit less coverage.
But despite the fact that the coverage is pretty sheer, it does even out my skin nicely, covering up redness and discolorations. I've tried cushion compacts from Korean brands like Etude House and Laneige, but I like this formula the best. It doesn't feel dry or cakey and looks completely natural...like a second-skin.
This shade  swatched below is Classic Buff N3.5, which is a neutral shade (these come in cool, warm and neutral tones).

L'oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation Review

Overall, this is another winning foundation from the Spring 2016 drugstore collections. If you're trying to decide between the Maybelline Dream Velvet (which I reviewed yesterday), and the True Match Lumi cushion, I would say that this one has a perfect everyday sheer-to-medium coverage and finish that is lightweight, satin, and feels like a second skin, while the Dream Velvet gives you medium coverage and a thicker whipped-gel consistency that dries to a powdery matte finish and gives an airbrushed look. I personally love them both and will likely use this cushion compact everyday, using the Dream Velvet when I need more coverage or if I'm going out at night.

Have you tried the new L'oreal True Match Lumi Cushion foundation yet?
It's available now at drugstores, Ulta Beauty and Drugstore.com

Profusion Trendsetter Blush & Bronzer Palette Review

I recently spotted the Profusion Trendsetter Blush & Bronzer Palette ($12.49 at ProfusionCosmetics.com) at Burlington Coat Factory and it was only $7.99, so I grabbed one to review and swatch for you guys. I really didn't need another blush/highlight/bronzer palette, but I've been so impressed with Profusion lately (they've become one of my favorite budget beauty brands), and this palette looked gorgeous so I couldn't pass it up. Let's take a look...
Profusion Trendsetter Blush & Bronzer Palette Review

The Trendsetter Blush & Bronzer palette contains 2 highlighters, 2 bronzers, and 4 blushes, plus three brushes and a mirror. It comes in a case that has a soft squishy cover on the outside and on the inside, the powders are all together on the left-hand side while the brushes and mirror are on the right.
Profusion Trendsetter Blush & Bronzer Palette Review

The pans are large in size and the color selection is beautiful. The highlighters are both gorgeous, and I fell in love with the Light Bronze shade, which is matte and perfect for fair skin tones since it's not the slightest bit orange. The blushes are also super pretty and wearable!
Profusion Trendsetter Blush & Bronzer Palette Review

The brushes in this palette were a little confusing though. It contains an angled blush brush, which is great for blush or contouring, but then it has two eyeshadow brushes that are too small to use on my cheeks (and definitely to small for all over the face). I could probably use one of the smaller brushes to highlight, but I prefer to use a fan brush for that. All in all, it's not a dealbreaker though. The price of the palette would be worth it, even without the brushes, due to the generous pan sizes and versatility.
Profusion Trendsetter Blush & Bronzer Palette Review

Here are swatches of all the shades. Each one is soft and nicely pigmented. The two bronzers and all of the blushes are matte finish

Overall, I love just about every shade in this palette! The only one I don't see myself using is the darker bronze shade. And even though the two smaller brushes don't make a lot of sense, I rarely ever use brushes that come with palettes anyway, because I have my favorites that I like to use all the time. What do you think? Have you tried any of the Trendsetter Palettes?

Zest Fruitboost Review + Giveaway

I don't know about you, but I'm a total night owl. Even though my son insists on waking me up before the sun comes up in the morning, I still can't get myself to bed before midnight...eleven at the earliest (and that means I'm probably sick). I guess it's because that's my free time, where I can do whatever I want to do, whether it's catching up on my favorite shows, working on blog posts or checking out social media. When I became a mom, I realized how precious that "me time" can be and I need a few hours to wind down after the kiddo goes to sleep.
Still, staying up late has it's consequences, one of which is dragging myself out of bed in the morning. Thankfully, Zest has just released a brand new line of shower gels called Fruitboost and these really help to get me going when I'm all bleary eyed with three bright, fresh, fruity scents. Let's take a look...
I was at Walmart last week and spotted Zest Fruitboost in the bath and body aisle. The bright, bold tubes caught my attention, as well as the price...$2.98 for a generous 10 oz. tube is pretty impressive! Plus, these are 2x concentrated, so you can use half as much and get tons of richly scented, foamy lather. They also contain Vitamin C to nourish and revitalize your skin.

My favorite of the three scents is Very Berry, which is a blend of raspberries, blackberries and blueberries. But I love them all...the Peach Mango is delicious and tropical, while the Citrus Splash really wakes me up with a blend of orange and lime.
Basically, if you like fruity scents, you'll fall head over heels for these...especially because your skin will still smell like them hours later, making you feel fresh and clean all day.

Right now, if you head over to the Zest website, you can print out a coupon for $1 off any scent of Fruitboost which you can use at Walmart. That brings the price down to $1.98!

Also, Zest is generously giving away a prize package to one Budget Beauty Blog reader which will include all three scents of Fruitboost!

Sneak Peek of The Lorac Spring 2016 Line

I've been sharing sneak peeks of the new Lorac line on Instagram the past few days, but just in case you're not on Instagram, I wanted to share them here as well! There are new blushes, foundation, Alter Ego lipstick shades and a new eyeshadow palette. Let's take a look...

The new Color Source blushes are supposed to be "incredibly pigmented & super buildable" according to Lorac. They'll be available at loraccosmetics.com on 1/12/16.

Next is a new, lightweight sheer version of Lorac's POREfection foundation calledSheer POREfection ($34). It has light to medium coverage that's buildable and is for all skin types. It'll be at loraccosmetics.com on 1/12/16 and at Kohls on 1/17/16. When I posted this to my Instagram page, a lot of you guys expressed frustration at the lack of darker shades and I have to agree! Looking at the swatches below, there are a lot of really light shades and I feel that a few of them look really close in color...it doesn't make sense.

Lorac is also launching four new Alter Ego lipstick shades that will be exclusive to Kohls...Nudist, Minimalist, Optimist, and Exhibitionist. They all look like super pretty, wearable shades!

Finally, the new Nude Necessities eyeshadow palette will be launching exclusively at Ulta Beauty on January 11th! I've heard mixed feelings about this one so far...some people are excited to have so many different shades of brown in one palette, while others feel like this is boring. It's hard to say without seeing it in person, but I feel like I have so many nude/naked palettes this isn't really jumping out at me.
What do you think of the new Spring 2016 releases from Lorac? Will you be picking up anything from the line?

New L'oreal La Palette Lip and Matte-Matic Eyeliners Spotted at Harmon

Today was a rainy, overcast day so we decided to head down to the shore to visit the aquarium. My son has just discovered Finding Nemo and we thought he'd like to see the fish. On the way down, he fell asleep in the car, and knowing that there is a Harmon in the area, I casually suggested to my husband that we swing by there and I could just "run in quick and see what's new" while he waited in the car with my son...because, you know, he was asleep and would probably be out for a while anyway! Ah, the things my husband does for me...he's a good sport!
The good news is, my little detour paid off...I spotted two new L'oreal products that I haven't seen in stores near me. Let's take a look...

The first display I saw was for the new L'oreal La Palette Lip. Each one contains five shades and there are two different color options...Ruby 01 and Nude 02.

They're $11.99 at Harmons which means they'll likely be a bit more when they hit the regular drugstores. The display showed swatches of all the shades and I have to admit, they look really pretty! Each kit also comes with a "professional designer lip brush".

Next up, I spotted the Infallible Matte-Matic eyeliners $7.99. These come in four shades: Ultra Black, Taupe Gray, Deep Brown, and Matte Navy and appear to be automatic pencils. They claim to have a matte finish and "up to 24hr intensity". Call me intrigued!

Have you seen these in stores near you yet? I'm really curious to know if these are anywhere except Harmon/Bed Bath & Beyond stores!

Too Faced founder Jerrod Blandino has been posting sneak peeks of the new Summer 2016 line on his Instagram page and there's some really adorable stuff coming our way! I recently posted a photo of the inside of the new Sweet Peach palette (see that here), and this photo shows the outside, along with a new Sweethearts blush and Sweethearts bronzer.

Also, you may have seen my post earlier this week of the inside of the Peanut Butter & Jelly palette...well here's another look and I have to admit, it looks better here. I'm not sure if the other photo had weird lighting (or maybe a filter on it?) because it looked kind of washed out. The colors look a bit more vibrant here, so I figured I'd share and see if you guys like it any better.

So far, it seems like these have an April release date, but as always, I'll be sure to keep you guys posted!

RT Dupe Brush Sets for Under $6!

I posted this deal on my Instagram page earlier tonight and I wanted to share it here too, for those of you who aren't on Instagram. A friend recently told me about a phone app called PatPat (in the Apple and Android stores) and it's a flash sale site similar to HauteLook, except their focus is mainly on beauty accessories and baby/kids gear.
Right now they have these brush sets that look exactly like Real Techniques and some of my Instagram followers who have purchased them said that there is no difference between these and Real Techniques. Some even said they liked these better!

Here's the scoop...the set on the top left that looks like the Bold Metals collection from R.T. will be available tomorrow, 1/11 at 6am PST (9am Eastern). The price is $10.59 for the entire set BUT if you use code rJMWZ0, you'll get 50% off your first order which brings the price down to $5.29. If you're interested in these, I recommend loading the app right at the start of the sale because my friend said every time these are on sale, they sell out very quickly.

The other three sets that look like the regular R.T. brushes are available now and each set is $7.99. If you use the code above, you can get them for $3.99!

If you need makeup brushes, I highly recommend downloading the app to your phone/tablet. It's free! Don't forget to use code rJMWZ0 to save 50%. Happy shopping!

Coastal Scents Revealed Smoky Palette Review

I can't remember the last time I bought a smoky eye palette...I have fair skin and I find that the super dark shades in a lot of "smoky" palettes look too harsh on me. So when I have a big event and want to rock a smoky eye, I tend to reach for deeper browns or plums versus black and gray, because it looks a little bit softer. That's why I decided to take a chance on the new Coastal Scents Revealed Smoky Palette ($19.99 at CoastalScents.com)... the price was right and it has the perfect shades to create "my" kind of smoky eye (as well as everyday makeup looks too).
Let me just say, I'm so glad I did and I'm excited to share my review and swatches with you today. Let's have a look...

When I first saw the Revealed Smoky, I thought of the new Urban Decay Naked Smoky because it has similar shades of bronzes, browns and taupes, as well as a few gray and black shades. In fact, I almost bought the Naked Smoky because it seemed like I could easily create that softer smoky eye look I love with it, but the almost $60 price tag held me back because I don't wear a smoky eye all that often.
The Revealed Smoky offers a similar color lineup of bronzes, browns, taupes and grays, with the addition of some plummy shades and even a navy blue. Plus, this palette has 20 shades for $19.99 while the Naked Smoky has 12 shades for $54.

There's a beautiful range of finishes in the Revealed Smoky Palette as well, including mattes, satins, shimmers, and metallics. The best part is, every single shade applies beautifully whether you're using a brush or your fingers. You know how a lot palettes have shimmers that swatch beautifully but the mattes end up going on dry and patchy? That can happen with budget-friendly as well as high-end palettes but it's not the case here! The mattes go on as smoothly as the shimmer shades and are highly pigmented. The metallic shades that have chunkier glitter in them (there are a couple in the bottom row) have a little bit of fallout but the rest of the shades had remarkably little fallout.  Overall, I am blown away by the formula of these!

The swatches below are without primer. I rubbed my finger back and forth in each pan a few times and then swiped...and the results are amazingly pigmented.

Overall, if you buy one smoky palette this year, make it this one! It rivals the high-end palettes in terms of pigmentation and formula not to mention the shade selection is modern and fresh for creating that perfect smoky eye.  Love, love, love!

NEW Maybelline Baby Lips Balm Ball Spotted at Bed, Bath & Beyond

When I first spotted the new Maybelline Baby Lips Balm Ball ($3.99) at Bed, Bath & Beyond earlier today, I almost walked right by because I thought they were those cream blushes that they launched over the summer (and I was not a fan). But out of the corner of my eye, I saw the words "Baby Lips" and realized that this was a lip product rather than a cheek product. Then I was giddy with excitement...I've seen a lot of Maybelline sneak peeks the past few months but these totally caught me by surprise! Let's take a look...

The Maybelline Baby Lips Balm Ball comes in four shades: 70 Pretty in Peach, 75 Pout in Pink, 80 Bit of Berry, and 85 Kiss of Rose. The display said that the model is wearing Pretty in Peach and based on the photo it looks pretty pigmented...I don't know if it's editing or if these really go on with that much color.  I'm really curious about these and wondering how these are different from the regular Baby Lips balms...are they more pigmented? Thicker? More hydrating? I bought all four shades, so I'll be posting my first impressions in the next couple of days.

Here's a look at the shades through the bottom of the pots, which gives a better idea of what the shades look like:

What do you think? Are you excited to try these? I'm really curious to see how these are and how they differ from the regular Baby Lips Balms! :)
