QVC Holiday Gift Ideas + Philosophy Giveaway!

You may or may not know from reading this blog that I'm a bit of a QVC addict. My husband likes to make fun of me when he comes into the family room and sees me watching one of the QVC beauty segments (I like to DVR them if I can't watch them live- I learn so much about the products and brands this way). He has this notion in his head that watching a "home shopping channel" is something our mothers used to do and he thinks that they're selling corny "As-Seen-on-TV" products. Of course, I have schooled him many times on the fact that QVC is literally the best place to buy my favorite beauty brands like Philosophy, IT Cosmetics, Mally Beauty, Tarte, Josie Maran, Bobbi Brown, bareMinerals (and many more) but it goes right over his head. He tends to tune me out when I start talking beauty products, lol.

So being the QVC superfan that I am, I was beyond excited when they offered to send me the new Philosophy Happy Holidays 12-piece Bath & Body Collection $64 ($122 value). And when the box arrived at my house, I was totally surprised to see a note inside that said that they included a second set for me to share and of course, I immediately thought of you guys!
So be sure to check out my giveaway at the end of this post for your chance to win this amazing set before it launches on November 28th.* Supplies are limited and it's likely to sell out quickly.
This kit contains all bath and body products in several different scents. There are four 6 oz. Shampoo, Bath & Shower Gels, four 1 oz. hand creams, and four of their high-gloss, high-flavor lip shines.

Peppermint Stick is a sweet take on peppermint and smells just like a candy cane.

Fresh Cream is a scent I was already familiar with since I use the full size shower gel on a regular basis. It's delicate, sweet, and creamy without being cloying or too heavy.

Snow Angel is the perfect clean and crisp scent...like fresh linens. My husband likes this one the best, and told me I smelled really good the day I used it.  There isn't a Snow Angel lip shine so I paired this with the Marshmallow Buttercream one for this photo. And yes...that one is as delicious as it sounds!

Lemon Custard smells like lemon pound cake. It's very light and not overpowering at all, so if you're not usually a fan of lemon scents, you might really like this one. The Cherry Christmas lip shine is a sweet cherry pie filling sort of scent and also leaves a pretty tint on your lips.

In addition to this set, which will be available on 11/28/15 there are some amazing holiday gifts at QVC this season...here are some of my picks:

The L'oreal Pro-Matte Glosses are Back!

Earlier this week, I spotted the new (and now permanent) L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Glosses at Walgreens and wanted to show you the new shade range. You may remember me reviewing this formula back in January but those six shades were limited edition and disappeared from stores shortly after that. The new permanent Pro-Matte range has ten shades so there are a few more choices when it comes to color. Let's take a look!

I pulled up my photo of the limited edition range to compare the shades to the new range and it looks like they brought back five of the old limited edition shades (with the exception of Tantalizing Tangerine).  In the new collection, they have the same names, just different numbers.

The shades in the new, permanent line are:

300 Blushing Ambition (from the ltd range), 302 Fuchsia Amnesia (from the ltd range), 304 Rebel Rose (new shade), 306 Aphrodite Kiss (from the ltd range), 308 Shanghai Scarlet (new shade), 310 Forbidden Kiss (new shade) 312 Rouge Envy (from the ltd range), 314 Nude Allude (from the ltd range), 316 Statement Nude (new shade) and 318 Bare Attraction (new shade).

The old limited edition collections (apologies for the blurry photo):
Blushing Ambition, Fuchsia Amnesia, Tantalizing Tangerine, Aphrodite Kiss, Rouge Envy and Nude Allude

I'm so excited that they included two nude/light shades in the new collection! My biggest complaint with the limited edition range was that even the lightest color was on the darker side.
Are you excited that L'oreal is relaunching the Pro-Matte Gloss? What do you think about the new shades?

NEW Wet n Wild MAX Fanatic Cat Eye Mascara & New Eyeliners at Walgreens

New products are starting to pop up at Walgreens (look up on the top shelves in the hair and skincare aisles to spot them) and I saw a few new Wet n Wild products this week! I can't wait until their overhaul comes in with the new packaging and all of the new products they've been teasing on Instagram, but for now these three new products will have to hold us over. Let's take a look...
This display includes a reformulated version of the H20 Proof Liquid Eyeliner in 6 shades, and two new eyeliners: Proline Felt Tip Eyeliner in 2 shades and Proline Graphic Marker Eyeliner in 2 shades with a slanted tip.
Also, there's a new mascara which I purchased to review soon. It's the Max Fanatic Cat Eye Mascara, that promises to create an instant cat eye with the fan brush. The brush reminds me a lot of the L'oreal Butterfly Intenza mascara which I really like, so I'm hoping that this one is a winner for me as well!

Have you seen these in stores yet? Or any other Wet n Wild new releases?

Looxi Beauty Highlighter Review & Swatches

I recently discovered indie makeup brand Looxi Beauty on Instagram, where I saw a lot of people that I follow posting swatches of their amazing highlighters. And...since I'm a highlighter junkie, I had to see what all the fuss was about!
I had such a hard time choosing which shades I wanted to try, but I narrowed it down to four. Let's take a closer look and get my take on these, plus see my swatches.
Looxi Beauty Highlighter Review & Swatches

Looxi has a few options when ordering:
    1. Their single highlighters in a compact are $15 each, and while it was tempting to do that, I wanted to try as many shades as possible and it would have cost me $60 to purchase four of them.

2.They also offer just the individual pans for $7.50 each, so if you have a Z-Palette, you can order them that way and they're half the price.

    3. But since I have never owned a Z-Palette, I decided to build my own highlight palette on their website instead...for $35, you get a small Z-Palette and 4 highlighters of your choice!
    Looxi Beauty Highlighters
Top Row: Ever After and Goddess
Bottom Row: La Belle and Bombshell

The pans came wrapped separately from the Z-Palette and I was really impressed with how well Looxi packaged everything. It was all wrapped up tight with tons of bubble wrap to make sure nothing would break on the trip from Illinois to Connecticut. Right now Looxi has a notification on their website that says that orders can take up to 2 weeks to ship out because they make everything to order by hand. My order arrived much sooner than that so I was really happy to see it in the mailbox before I was expecting it. Still, depending on the demand, it could take a longer or shorter time depending on what's going on.
    looxi beauty highlighter
Clockwise from top: La Belle, Ever After, Goddess, Bombshell

Looxi's Highlighters are soft and very pigmented, and the color range is so beautiful!

Ever After is a stunning beige with a violet undertone. I've never seen a highlight this color but it's so gorgeous and unexpected.

Goddess is a light peachy pink with gold undertones. I'm almost pale enough to get away with wearing this as a blush but not quite. Instead, I layer it over my blush and bring it up slightly higher on my cheekbones for a beautiful glow.

La Belle is a light, soft gold with a metallic, shimmery finish. It's such a pretty color and goes well with my cooler skin tone.

Bombshell is a reflective champagne gold and is really popular on Instagram right now...it seems like this is everyone's top choice next to Ever After. I felt like it might be too warm on me but I wanted to be able to swatch it for you guys in case you were interested in it.
    looxi beauty highlighter swatches

I've also been seeing around the web that Bombshell is a perfect dupe for Becca x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Pop and judging by the way they look in the pan, I would think they would be spot-on.
    becca champagne pop dupe

But actually, I didn't find them to be exact dupes. Bombshell is a little bit lighter and not quite as warm, but they're definitely very close. I have seen other people's swatches where the two looked identical so I'm wondering if the batches may vary a little bit since they're hand made.

Here's a quick video I posted on Instagram yesterday that really shows the beauty of these shades and the way they catch the light!
Overall, if you're a highlighter junkie like me, I definitely recommend checking out Looxi Beauty! They have some really unique shades, and the quality is excellent!

If you've been following me for a while, you may know that Profusion is one of my favorite affordable makeup brands and I've reviewed a bunch of their products so far (lots more reviews on the way!). So if you've been thinking about placing an order, now's the time to do it because the whole site is 40% off, and select products are 60% off today through November 29th.

    Here's what you'll find at 60% off...

I actually own the Trendsetter Face Palette and Trendsetter Blush & Bronzer Palette and will try to get reviews out this week before the sale is over in case you're trying to decide which ones to get. The Feline Lip Luster set is a major steal at $4 for 6 of them! I reviewed four of the shades last Winter when I found them at Walgreens for $1 each, but these work out to even less than $1 a piece (you can see that review here).

So even if you already own (or aren't interested in the 60% off items, the good news is that the entire Profusion site is 40% off, which is huge! So happy shopping...come on back and drop me a comment and tell me what you end up getting! :)

Profusion Techikhol Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner Set Review

    $

I recently spotted the Profusion Cosmetics Technikhol Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner Set at Five Below and I grabbed one because I have never tried any of Profusion's eyeliners. I'm always searching for a liner that doesn't smudge all over the place. It seems like even "waterproof" formulas still smudge on me, especially if I try to create a wing at the outer corner...it's always gone within a few hours.
This set is $6.59 on the Profusion Website (currently only $3.89 as part of their Black Friday sale!) and I think it was $5 at Five Below where I bought it, so either way, it's a great price for six eyeliners. Let's take a look...
Profusion Techikhol Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner Set

This set comes in a black box with rose gold accents. I ended up getting the Gold Set, which has more neutral shades but there is also a Purple Set available that has black, plum, teal, forest green, gunmetal and silver.

Profusion Techikhol Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner Set

Profusion Techikhol Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner Set

These are the wooden eyeliner type and I have found that there are definitely pros and cons to this type of liner. In my experience, they're usually very dry and tend to tug on the eyelids, but amazingly these are very creamy and smooth and glide across my eyelids with no tugging. I also find that it's easy to create a smooth line with wooden pencils because you can lay the pencil down flat against your eyelid. It's harder to do that with the gel style pencils because they usually sit down inside an outer casing, but the wooden ones are a continuous line from the wood right to the tip. They also allow you to get a much sharper point than the gel pencils.
7Profusion Techikhol Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner Set

The black and dark brown shades are matte, while the bronze, gold, rose gold, and creamy beige are metallic. I've been using the black and dark brown every day. I also like to use the lighter shades on my lower lash line because they brighten up my eye look for every day.
I'm also impressed by the staying power of these! They last all day long on my lash line and although my wing still disappears at some point during the day, it seems to last a lot longer than with other waterproof liners I've tried. Also I didn't notice any smudging which is a huge plus!
Profusion Techikhol Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner swatches
Overall, I'm excited to have found long-lasting eyeliners that are so inexpensive! I also love using the pencil-style liners so I'm glad that these are so creamy and not dry at all.

You can grab these now at Profusioncosmetics.com!

Kiko Cosmic Starlets Moon Dust Blush & Angel Kiss Set Review

    kiko cosmic starlets cosmetics
I've fallen in love with Kiko Cosmetics over the past few months and while their regular product lines are amazing, the special collections are my absolute favorites! This month, they launched the Cosmic Starlets collection for Holiday 2015 and everything from the packaging to the products themselves are simply stunning.

I was at the mall last week and wandered into the Kiko store after seeing the Cosmic Starlets collection online and it was tough to choose but I picked up two products to try...the Moon Dust Face Powder Highlighting Baked Blush and the Angel Kiss Set. Let's take a closer look...
    kiko cosmic starlets review

As usual, Kiko scores major points for beautiful packaging. The boxes are a pretty and festive red and the products themselves are in red and mirrored silver containers and compacts.
    kiko cosmic starlets

    kiko cosmic starlets

The Moon Dust Face Powder $19 (it'll be 30% off on Black Friday/Cyber Monday and will come to $13.30) is a highlighting baked blush that comes in two shades, Mysterious Pink (which is the one I got) and Fairy Mauve which is more of a mauve-brown shade. It comes in a geometric-shaped compact and the blush itself is in a star shape. Each blush is made up of a blend of shades and they remind me a lot of the Hourglass Ambient Blushes (which are $35).
    kiko moon dust blush review

These blushes give your skin a beautiful glow while adding a pop of color to your cheeks. Like the Hourglass Ambient blushes, these are like a blush/highlighter hybrid.
    kiko moon dust blush review

The powder is soft and nicely pigmented and picks up easily with a brush, with little to no fallout. This pink shade is warm and soft with a bit of gold mixed in. I love this shade so much, I really want to go back and try the Fairy Mauve too!
    kiko moon dust blush review

The Angel Kiss Set $14, (it'll be 30% off on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, so it'll only cost $9.80) is a lip scrub and balm duo that comes in four flavors (Candy Canes, Champagne & Strawberries, Milk & Honey, and Cranberry Crumble.  I love warm, sweet scents so I opted for the Milk & Honey scent...I wasn't disappointed! Its absolutely delicious.
    kiko angel kiss review

The Velvet Lips Scrub comes in a little glass jar and the sugar crystals are very gritty so it does a great job of exfoliating. My one complaint with it is that the grains are pretty large so I had a few of them fall onto the counter rather than staying on my lips as I was first starting to use it. But plenty of the scrub stayed right on my lips and it did a great job. Just be aware that its a little bit messy...next time I'll do it over the sink. This scrub also has Rosemary extract to protect the lips and jojoba oil to nourish them.
Once my lips are smooth, the Kiss Balm stick feels so hydrating and soft with no sticky feeling at all. It adds a nice shine to my lips but no color. Some of the other flavors had pink and red Kiss Sticks so I'm curious to see if those leave a tint of color behind.
    kiko angel kiss review

Overall, I'm so happy with my little Kiko haul! I need to go back and grab some more of the items in the Cosmic Starlet collection..they're just amazing quality and the packaging looks and feels so high-end.
**PLUS! If you like this products, hold off until 11/27 before you buy because everything on the Kiko Website will be 30% off! And, in stores, they'll be offering Buy 3 Products, Get 3 Free.**

I just wanted to take a minute to tell you guys that my pal G over at Nouveau Cheap has the most amazing Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale round-up over at her blog. I'm sure a lot of you already follow her, but if not, I just wanted to send you her way if you're looking for all of the deals in one place.
G works so hard every year on getting a complete list of all the sales and she updates the list multiple times a day, so I've been using it as a guide for my holiday shopping so far and it's been really helpful!

I've been trying to post deals when I can but things are crazy right now at home...we're having some work done on the house and my toddler needs a lot of my attention these days so I haven't been able to post as much as I want to. I also have so many products I want to review and so little time to get them done, so I've been focusing on that right now.

So head on over to Nouveau Cheap for the best Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale round-up ever. :)

NEW Covergirl Spotted at Bed, Bath & Beyond

Thank you so much to reader Hannah (@hhardydawson on Instagram) for sending me these photos of new CoverGirl Spring 2016 releases at Bed, Bath & Beyond! It looks like some really interesting stuff including dupes of high-end products...I've never seen a drugstore brand directly compare their products to more expensive ones before, so I'm really intrigued.

First up is the new Oh Sugar! Lip Balm ($6.49). The display says, "Try vs. a $20 Lip Balm" and "a Fresher Idea" so it stands to reason that they're comparing this balm to the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatments (which are actually $22.50).

I did some digging online and came across this picture and information on the Proctor and Gamble website. It looks like there are a lot of beautiful shades on the way...many more than Fresh has in their Sugar Lip Treatment, so if this is just as good, CoverGirl can just take my money now!
COVERGIRL will have you saying Oh Sugar! with a fresh, new vitamin-infused lip balm that provides a pampering, sensorial experience at a better-than-fresh price. And what’s even sweeter than the citrus scent, decadent shade palette and delicious sugary taste? The price! Soft, naturally-moisturized lips never looked (or tasted) so sweet.

    FEATURES & BENEFITS

    • With grapeseed oil, avocado butter & Vitamins C & E, this reparative luxe lip treatment nourishes, protects and smoothes lips so you feel naturally renewed from the inside out

    • Thin oils absorb quickly into lips while a thin protective layer locks in moisture – no thick, greasy film-feel you can get from other balms
    • Tinted formula glides on smooth for the perfect pop of Colorlicious payout – we dare you to compare to a $20 balm!
    • 10 SKUs: Cupcake, Candy, Caramel, Taffy, Spice, Punch, Soda, Sprinkle, Jelly & Gumdrop

Next up, are the truNAKED Eyeshadow Palettes ($9.49 each). The display says "get the same look as a leading $50 eyeshadow palette" so it's safe to assume they're referring to the Urban Decay Naked Palettes! They come in three shades...Goldens (similar to Naked 1), Roses (Naked 3), and Nudes (Naked 2). These have 8 shades, while the Naked palettes have 12, but if the formula is just as good that would be amazing. There have been many Naked Palette dupes at the drugstore (Maybelline Nudes, Revlon Not Just Nudes, L'oreal La Palette Nudes, etc.) and so far, none of them have panned out as a true formula dupe. I haven't been impressed with CoverGirl's eyeshadows in the past, but I have to believe that if they're claiming that these palettes are as good as a $50 eyeshadow palette that they've changed the formula. I'm really excited to try these!

Here's some more information on them from the P&G website, plus some info on the Waterproof Eyeliner duos that haven't been spotted in stores yet...

COVERGIRL truNAKED Shadow Palettes  andWaterproof Eyeliner Duo
Colour has moved from the lips to the lids, with graphic liners looks, nudes, golds and shimmer dominating the Spring/Autumn Fashion Shows. Just in time to capitalize on those trends without a heavy price tag, COVERGIRL introduces truNAKED Shadow Palettes and Waterproof Eyeliner Duo.

The new truNAKED Shadow Palettes deliver colour payout and shades comparable to a leading $50 eye shadow palette. Each palette includes eight intensely-pigmented, uber-blendable shadows to deliver a smooth, silky feel and prestige-worthy payout at a fraction of the cost.

The truNAKED Waterproof eyeliner duo features two versatile eyeliner shades to deliver rich, blendable colour that shades like a prestige-double ended liner.

    FEATURES & BENEFITS
    • Eyeshadow Palette shades like a leading $50 eyeshadow

    • Three prestige-inspired shade palettes -- Nude, Roses, Golden

•Each palette features perfectly combined pale-to deep-neutral shades to contour your eyes in endless combinations (from nude to smokey) and offers a range of textures (from matte to shimmer)

Finally, CoverGirl has released a new mascara called Plumpify blast PRO mascara ($8.49), which Hannah also spotted at Bed, Bath & Beyond. When I first saw this brush, I thought of Nars Audacious mascara because the spikes looked similar, plus it's a red brush. But then I realized that the Nars brush isn't twisted like that and that piece of it looks a lot like bareMinerals Lash Domination. So I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a dupe of anything or if this is just something new all together.

MORE New Covergirl Products Spotted at Bed, Bath & Beyond!

Yesterday, I posted some reader-submitted photos of the new Covergirl Spring 2016 line that has started popping up at Bed, Bath & Beyond, so naturally I had to go there and see for myself. I ended up finding even more new Covergirl products, so I couldn't wait to share them with you guys! Let's get started...
First, I saw this display with new TruBlend Primer and TruBlend Baked Blushes and Bronzer.

The TruBlend Primer comes in three different formulas, one for dry skin, one for oily skin, and one for combination skin. It's about time someone thought of this! I can't wait to try the one for dry skin...I need as much extra hydration as I can get! There was no price listed so I'm not sure how much they are. I planned to go back and buy one so I'll update this post once I do.

The TruBlend Blushes & Bronzers ($7.99 each) appear to be baked but I didn't see that on the packaging so I'm not 100% sure on that. They have a marbled appearance with different shades swirled into them, kind of like the Hourglass Blushes and Bronzers...they're so pretty!
The blushes come in three shades, Light Rose, Medium Rose, and Deep Mauve while the bronzer comes in one shade.

Next up is a brand new foundation called Simply Ageless 3-in-1 Liquid Foundation ($12.49). I wasn't a fan of the Simply Ageless compact foundation they released a while back because it felt dry and cakey on my dry skin. But this one claims to give "plumping moisture, reduce the look of wrinkles, and improve tone". They had a tester on the display so I tried it on the back of my hand. It felt very velvety, like a mousse foundation or a primer and it had nice medium-to full coverage. The finish is matte and it made the skin on my hand look and feel smooth and soft, so I have hope that it'll work for my face!

The shade range isn't huge at only 7 shades (each one is doubled up in the display so it looks like there are more).

Finally, I was so happy to find all ten shades of the Oh Sugar! Lip Balm ($6.49). When I posted about these yesterday I mentioned that they appear to be duping Fresh's Sugar Lip Treatment, so of course I needed to try one immediately! I plan to do a full review on these once I use them for a while but I wanted to do a quick first impression since I know you guys are curious.
They have a lemon sugar type scent, very similar to the Fresh Lip Treatments and have a similar melty texture. They're bullet shaped like a lipstick, rather than flat like the Fresh ones and I actually like this better because it's easier to stay inside the lip line. Also, the color payoff is nice for a balm, at least in the shade I tried which is Soda (the lighter shades may not have as much pigmentation).

So what do you think about the latest from Covergirl so far? I can't wait to dig into the lip balms, eyeshadow palettes (from yesterday's post) and the blushes!

Burt's Bees Pumpkin Spice Lip Balm Only at Target

This post brought to you by Burt’s Bees at Target. The content and opinions expressed below are that of The Budget Beauty Blog.

Ahh Pumpkin Spice...I don't think there's anything that captures the scent of fall for me more than that. Even though Pumpkin Spice starts showing up everywhere in September, I associate it more with late fall. It brings me back to my childhood, baking pies in the kitchen with my Mom the day before Thanksgiving. Funny thing is, I don't even like pumpkin pie...but I suppose I just associate the smell with that warm and cozy feeling of being at home with my family, watching movies and baking all day.
Thankfully, Burt's Bees has decided to bring back their limited edition Pumpkin Spice lip balm this year so I can take this comforting scent with me wherever I go, no calories included! I totally missed it last year and then it disappeared so I was really excited when I spotted it at Target a few weeks ago and I grabbed one immediately.
This lip balm is exclusive to Target, so you won't find it anywhere else. When I first spotted this, I realized that it wasn't in the Burt's Bees section in the bath and body aisle...it was actually on an endcap over by the toothpaste aisle. So I wanted to mention that in case you're looking for it and don't see it with the regular Burt's Bees products. It costs $3.29, same as the other Burt's Bees lip balm flavors and packs a truly mouth-watering flavor punch.
It's creamy pumpkin mixed with a touch of spice...much like pumpkin pie filling.
A few days later, I was back at Target...I probably go there at least three times a week- my husband laughs but I can get everything I need there whether it's food, personal care items, baby stuff, toys, or clothes and shoes- it's pretty much a one-stop-shop.
While I was there, of course I had to stop by the beauty section, and I spotted a new display at the end of the makeup aisles that had Pumpkin Spice and also a Pumpkin Spice/Vanilla Bean Combo pack!
The formula contains coconut oil, sunflower seed oil, lanolin and pumpkin seed oil to moisturize and soothe dry, cracked lips. It's a harder balm, which I really prefer over softer, more melty formulas because it feels smooth on the lips and I don't feel like I have a thick waxy or balmy coating on them. As dry as my lips are, it's nice to have an affordable option that works well because I am constantly applying balm and tend to go through it pretty quickly. Hmm...now that I think about it, I better go grab another tube or two of the Pumpkin Spice one because this flavor won't be sticking around forever!
Overall, if you love pumpkin spice or just fall scents in general, head on over to your local Target or Target.com to pick up the Burt's Bees Pumpkin Spice Lip Balm. It's only available for a limited time and then it'll be gone, so if you're interested, don't wait too long!

My Holiday Beauty Wishlist With Marie Claire

I'll never forget the day my older cousin introduced me to her stash of fashion magazines. I was 9 years old and we were in her bedroom late at night flipping through a stack of back issues. I sat there for hours, mesmerized by everything from the beautiful clothing right down to the perfume samples embedded in the pages. I can pinpoint that night almost 30 years ago as the exact moment in time that I became interested in beauty and fashion and I've been an avid magazine reader ever since.

I started reading Marie Claire in the mid 1990's when I was in high school and have never missed an issue! Out of all the magazines I've read, Marie Claire resonates the most with me because they offer a little bit of everything I want to read about. I love drooling over the gorgeous fashion pages...the bags! The shoes! Plus tons and tons of style inspiration.
The beauty features are my go-to for discovering new brands I hadn't heard of before or getting sneak peeks of makeup that hasn't been released yet.
The editorial content is always interesting to read because it's never the same old, "how to snag a man" kind of articles. They manage to be interesting, educational, and inspiring all at the same time. I learn a lot from reading Marie Claire, whether it's about world events, interviews with strong women from all over the world, or thought provoking pieces...either way, I'm never bored.

But being a beauty blogger means that my favorite part of the magazine is the beauty products of course! So I wanted to share some of the things I discovered in the December issue of Marie Claire with you guys...it's my holiday beauty wishlist!

First, I spotted the Fresh Cocoa Body Exfoliant ($45 at Sephora) in the What Erin Loves section of the magazine (Erin is MC's beauty director). My husband gave me a Sephora gift card for my birthday and I've been compiling a list of things I want to buy with it...this is definitely going on that list!

I love finding out about new beauty products before they're released and this blurb about the new Pantene Airspray caught my attention. It offers all the hold of a traditional hairspray without the drying alcohol...brilliant! I can't wait until this comes out in January.

Another great thing about the Marie Claire beauty pages is finding out what the beauty editors are obsessed with, because they've tried everything. So if they like something, it's most likely a winner for me too. I've never heard of the La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 ($15), since it was only available in France up until now, but it sounds amazing for dry winter skin.

I've seen the Christophe Robin line at Sephora but I don't know a lot about it yet. This Antioxidant Cleansing Milk, recommended by the gorgeous Natalia Vodianova in the In Her Own Words section sounds heavenly. This is definitely going on my wishlist!

Finally, I was super excited to read this article about how to boost your hair color without dying it. I've been struggling with hair breakage since I overbleached my hair last year...I'm still growing the damaged sections out and am hesitant to use anything too strong on it in the meantime. This article recommended two different color enhancing products that I'm definitely going to try...the Rita Hazan Ultimate Shine Gloss($26) which is a color depositing glaze, and the TIGI Fashionista Shampoo ($18) and Conditioner ($19), which boost your color the more you use them.

Overall, I couldn't live without my monthly beauty and fashion fixes from Marie Claire and I always look forward to the next issue showing up in my mailbox. I know we're living in the digital age and many people are reading magazines on tablets now, but for me, there's something comforting and familiar about flipping through the pages...it's my favorite wind-down activity. Plus, I love those perfume samples (don't laugh I've actually discovered some great scents this way!).

To get your own 1 year subscription to Marie Claire for only $10, plus a one-year subscription to gift to a friend for FREE click here. It's so much less than buying it at the newsstand, where it's $3.99 an issue, plus you're getting a second subscription for free!

    Covergirl Tru-Naked Roses Palette Review

It seems like I was just saying last week that I was getting bored with drugstore makeup and had moved on to smaller indie brands, when Covergirl came along with their Spring 2016 collection and completely turned my head around!
When I first saw the Covergirl TruNaked palettes ($9.49) at Bed, Bath & Beyond, I thought to myself, "oh man, seriously...another UD Naked dupe?". It seems like just about every brand has been there and done that already, and with the exception of the Makeup Revolution Iconic Palettes, no one has come close in terms of eyeshadow quality or pigmentation.
But something caught my attention about these... a sticker on the front of the palette has the claim, "shades like a leading $50 eyeshadow palette". Ok, now none of the other drugstore Naked palette dupes has made that claim, so I bought one out of sheer curiosity. I figured that if the claims were true, I would go back and get the others. But I wasn't really prepared for what I was about to find out...
    Covergirl TruNaked Roses Palette Review
The Covergirl TruNaked palettes have 8 shades, while the Urban Decay Naked palettes have 12. TruNaked Roses has rose-toned neutrals with a mix of shimmer and matte shades. It comes with a sponge-tipped applicator and no mirror, similar to the Maybelline Nudes ($9.99) and Revlon Not Just Nudes ($14.99) palettes.
    Covergirl TruNaked Roses Palette Review

I really like the mix of shades in this one! It has both shimmer and matte at the lighter end of the palette, plus some great matte transition and crease shades.
    Covergirl TruNaked Roses Palette

I wasn't expecting too much when I went to swatch these shades for the first time, but oh. my. gosh. Nothing could have prepared me for the soft, buttery-ness that is this palette. One swipe in the pan is all you need for smooth, saturated color. At first, I went back and forth in the pan with my finger a few times, thinking that I would have to do that to pick up more color. But all that did was create some fallout...these are so soft, you only need to glide your finger or a brush across them once and you'll pick up all you need.

These swatches below are done without any primer...they're just gorgeous. Even the matte shades swatch exceptionally well. To say that I'm impressed is an understatement! These can also be used wet for an even more intense color payoff!
    Covergirl TruNaked Roses Palette swatches

So how does this compare to the Naked 3 palette? I figured I had to do a comparison since the claims say that the TruNaked palette stacks up to a $50 eyeshadow palette.

The shades are similar, but not exactly the same, which I'm actually happy about since I have the Naked 3 palette already. An exact dupe would be redundant in my collection, so I'm happy to have some slightly different shades to work with.

Here, I swatched each of the Covergirl shades next to a Naked 3 shade that looked to be similar. Most of them aren't exact dupes, but the important thing to notice here is that there's no real discernable difference in pigmentation!

If you follow me on Instagram, you've probably seen my swatch videos, but if not, I wanted to link  them here so you can see the kind of color payoff you can get with one swipe!

Here's a video I did where I show swatches of Urban Decay Blackheart vs. Cover Girl Mousse (the two darkest shades) and then Urban Decay Nooner vs. Cover Girl Copper Rose (both matte shades).

Overall, I am so impressed with the new Covergirl TruNaked Roses palette! The day I swatched it for the first time, I ran right back to Bed, Bath & Beyond and got the other two, so I'll be reviewing/swatching/comparing those soon!
I can't wait to try the rest of the Covergirl Spring 2016 line...I have a feeling these palettes are just the beginning.
Have you seen these in stores yet? Tried 'em? What do you think?

    Profusion Absolute Face Palette Review

I've been so impressed with Profusion lately...even though I've been a fan of them for years, their newer products have just been wowing me lately. Two standouts that come to mind are the Studio Highlight Palette and the Make Me Blush set I found at Walgreens- they were both high-end quality at drugstore prices, which is what budget beauty bloggers like me live for!
So I was really excited when Profusion asked me to join their Insiders Program and even more excited when I got a huge box full of Profusion goodies just before Thanksgiving (in case you missed my photo of it on Instagram, here it is). Some of the products that were in the box are products I already own and have reviewed which means I'll be doing some giveaways for you guys...so stay tuned for that!
One of the products I couldn't wait to get my hands on and try was the Absolute Face Palette V2 ($12.49 at Profusioncosmetics.com) which has gotten a makeover for 2015 and contains everything you need in one kit for a flawless face! Let's take a look...

    profusion absolute face palette review

The Absolute Face Palette V2 comes in a hard plastic case that's perfect for travel. The only thing missing here is foundation and eye makeup! Inside you have both light and medium face powders, a highlight and contour shade, two blushes, two brow powders, two concealers, two cream correctors and four lip colors. Not to mention four brushes (which I likely wouldn't use on a regular basis, but it's nice to have them in case I didn't have my full size brushes for some reason).
    profusion absolute face palette review

Before I get into the shades, I want to point out that this palette is definitely made for those with fair, light or medium skin tones. I understand that it would be difficult to get shades to fit every skin tone into one palette, otherwise the palette would be huge!  But I would love to see Profusion come out with an Absolute Face Palette for Tan to Deep skin tones next.

The first section contains Light and Medium Face Powders (the light one suits me perfectly), a gorgeous Champagne Highlight, and a matte contour shade that's not too dark so it's great for light skin tones. The Nude Rose and Pink Peach blushes are also the perfect shades for lighter skintones and look really natural and pretty.

Top to Bottom: Light Face Powder, Medium Face Powder, Champagne Highlight, Contour, Nude Rose Blush, Pink Peach Blush
In the next section are the brow powders and concealers. The Taupe Brow Powder is a little bit cooler-toned and perfect for the color of my brows. The Dark Brown Brow Powder is a bit warmer and darker.
The concealers are a cream formula and offer medium coverage...they're not going to cover major dark circles but they're enough for me when it comes to everyday use. The Light concealer matches my skin tone well and I was afraid I wouldn't be able to use the Beige concealer because it looked too dark. But when I swatched it, I realized that it looks a lot like the peachy-orange under eye correctors I have that help to cancel out dark circles, so I can definitely use it under foundation that way.

Top to Bottom: Taupe Brow Powder, Dark Brown Brow Powder, Light Concealer, Beige Concealer
The last section contains two cream correctors...a green one for cancelling out redness (love these for around my nose) and a lilac one for cancelling yellow tones in your face (my skin is so pink-toned I don't really need this one).  There are also four lip colors.
    profusion absolute face palette

Here's a close-up of the correctors...I was impressed by how much pigment they have! Sometimes color correctors are so barely-there I wonder if they will really cancel anything out, but these have enough color and coverage to do the job. When layered under foundation, the green one takes away all of the redness in my face...love!
    profusion absolute face palette swatches

I'm not usually a fan of using lip colors inside palettes, but I loved the almost gel-like consistency of these. They have great color payoff and a beautiful shine, sort of like a lipstick/gloss hybrid.

Pros and Cons of the Absolute Face Palette V2

    Pros:
So many face products in one palette!
    Good pigmentation
Nice color selection for fair, light and medium skin tones
    Great quality and inexpensive

    Cons:
Can't be used by those with tan to deep skin tones

Overall, I'm so glad that Profusion sent me the Absolute Face Palette V2 because it's unlike any other palette I have and is great for travel. It'll make a great gift for the makeup lover in your life (or just for yourself!).
You can grab this now at Profusioncosmetics.com.

**Disclosure- The product featured in this review was sent to me by Profusion Cosmetics but all opinions are my own. I was not paid to write this review.**

    Covergirl Tru Blend Blush Review

I recently found the new Covergirl Tru Blend Blushes ($7.99) at my local Bed, Bath & Beyond. These are brand new for Spring 2016 and join several other new products that are really quite exciting! Let's take a look...
    covergirl trublend blush review

These look like they're baked blushes...they have that dome shape that most baked formulas have, but it doesn't say anywhere on the packaging that they're baked so I'm not 100% positive on that. They have a marbled appearance with at least two different shades running through each one. They actually remind me a little of the Hourglass Ambient blushes....I'll have to compare the shades to those at some point because Cover Girl seems to be duping higher-end products with the TruNaked palettes (Urban Decay dupes) and the Oh Sugar Lip Balms (Fresh dupes).

TruBlend comes in three different shades of blush and one shade of bronzer (which I'll review in a separate post). They cost $7.99 at Bed, Bath & Beyond which is usually priced a little lower than drugstores, so these might very well be somewhere between $8-9 at CVS, Rite Aid, or Walgreens. I was able to use a bunch of 20% off and $5 off coupons to save some money on these, so that's one great reason to get them at Bed, Bath & Beyond if your local store has a beauty section!

All of the shades have a soft sheen to them...they're not overly shimmery but just add a hint of shimmer to your cheeks.

Light Rose is a light peachy pink.

Deep Mauve is a dark plummy mauve shade.

Just like with the TruNaked eyeshadow palettes, I'm super impressed with the pigmentation of these blushes! They're soft and buttery and go on beautifully! Deep Mauve is way too dark for my pale skin tone, but I can definitely wear the other two...they're just beautiful.

Covergirl has really stepped up their game and I'm so excited to try even more products from the new Spring 2016 collection! If you spot this collection near you, I highly recommend picking up some of these blushes to try (and the TruNaked palettes too!). I'll be reviewing the Oh Sugar! lip balms next and I also picked up the new primer (for dry skin) and the Plumpify mascara, so stay tuned. :)
