Maybelline The Colossal Chaotic Lash Mascara Review

Maybelline The Colossal Chaotic Lash Mascara ($5.89 at Bed, Bath & Beyond) is brand new in stores this month and is supposed to make your lashes into "a perfectly sexy mess". Hmm...let's take a look.
Maybelline The Colossal Chaotic Lash Mascara Review

Ok, is it just me, or are the model's lashes in this ad completely unappealing? They're like, very Tammy Faye Bakker, right? I was always taught to comb through and separate my lashes to avoid the clumpy, spidery look so it's interesting that this is now a trend.  Maybe I'm just getting old, but I'm not digging it.
Maybelline The Colossal Chaotic Lash Mascara Review
According to the package instructions you're supposed to apply this the regular way first by holding the brush horizontally and sweeping it up through your lashes, and then turning it vertically and sweeping the brush side to side to "disorganize" your lashes. The tip of the brush is bent to make this process easier, but it's all a bit gimmicky to me because I feel like you can do this with any old mascara wand (I just choose not to!).
Maybelline The Colossal Chaotic Lash Mascara Review

The tube reminds me of the Lash Sensational tube except it's bright yellow instead of pink.
Maybelline The Colossal Chaotic Lash Mascara Review
The brush is a typical mascara wand (not the rubbery kind, but the regular type) that has a very slight bend at the tip.  This is what Maybelline is calling the "teaser brush".
Maybelline The Colossal Chaotic Lash Mascara Review
Here are my before and afters...I actually tried messing up my lashes with the brush as instructed but all I got were clumps and I couldn't stand it.  So I combed them through again using the wand horizontally and was able to get nice separation and some decent volume and length, but nothing to write home about.

Before

Maybelline The Colossal Chaotic Lash Mascara Review
After
Overall, this mascara is just ok.  It gives medium length and volume, so no false lash look here. I also had some issues with smudging and flaking toward the end of the night. I feel like most of the marketing on this one is about the brush but there's nothing overly special about it, since you can mess up your lashes with any old brush! As far as the "messy" look goes, if that's your thing, you'll probably enjoy L'oreal's Miss Manga Rock that recently came out (see my review here). That one makes it super easy to get that spidery, clumpy look...but this one? Not so much.

Covergirl Jumbo Gloss Balm Creams Review and Swatches

Covergirl Jumbo Gloss Balm Creams ($6.79) are brand new for Summer 2015 and I recently spotted the display at Bed, Bath and Beyond (see that post here to view all the shades). When I first saw these, I thought they were the same Jumbo Gloss Balms that have been out for a while now, but then I realized that these said, "Creams".  So I bought two shades to review and swatch for you guys! Let's take a look...
Covergirl Jumbo Gloss Balm Creams
Covergirl Jumbo Gloss Balm Creams in 290 Berries 'n Cream and 280 Caramel Cream

Packaging-wise, there's nothing really new about these...they're very similar to the original Jumbo Gloss Balms and other twist-up lip crayons we've seen from many different brands. These come in 6 shades and claim to have "soft shine and rich color in luscious balm".  These are infused with shea butter for smooth soft lips with rich, creamy color.
Covergirl Jumbo Gloss Balm Creams
The color payoff is very good for a lip crayon...these are basically like lipsticks in a jumbo crayon form! They claim to have shine, but you can see from my swatches below that they really aren't shiny at all. They're not completely matte but they have a sort of satiny finish to them, and for me, they look sort of dull and flat on my lips. I do like a satin finish once in a while, but I prefer at least a little bit of shine most of the time, and especially in the summer.
I have to say though, these last a long time on my lips...I got 4-5 hours of wear which I was not expecting from a lip crayon.  Also, they didn't make my lips feel dry or sink into lip lines, which I was really surprised by since they don't have a super hydrating, shiny finish. Also, they have absolutely no scent whatsoever so if you're sensitive to fragrance, you'll be happy about that.

The shades I chose were 280 Caramel Cream (a peachy nude), and 290 Berries N' Cream (a dusty rose mauve).
Covergirl Jumbo Gloss Balm Creams swatches
280 Caramel Cream, 290 Berries 'n Cream
When I first swatched Berries 'n Cream, it reminded me of Colourpop's Lumiere lipstick, so I wanted to compare them to see if it was a dupe.  I'd say it definitely comes close...it's just a tiny bit lighter than Lumiere but the color and tone is really similar.

Overall, I'm not sure I'll be using these for a while since I really prefer a sheer, shiny finish for the summer. I might pull these out in the fall because the formula is very lipstick-like and I love the convenience of a twist-up crayon.  Plus, they're long lasting and not drying.

Right now, you can purchase these at Bed, Bath and Beyond and Harmon for $6.79, but they'll likely be in drugstores very soon!

City Color Glowing Complexion Illuminating Cream Review and Swatches

City Color Glowing Complexion Illuminating Cream ($5 at Citycolorcosmetics.com) is a beautiful cream highlighter I picked up at Five Below recently and I'm already obsessed...I can't believe there aren't more reviews on this out there! You could say I have a little problem when it comes to highlighters- I buy them every chance I get and have a ton of them, both drugstore and high-end in powder, cream, and liquid formulas. This one could be the least expensive of them all, and is quickly becoming one of my absolute favorites.  Let's take a look...
City Color Glowing Complexion Illuminating Cream Review and Swatches

Glowing Complexion Illuminating Cream comes in one shade, a beautiful champagne that would probably work for a variety of skin tones. It's packaged in a slim tube that's just over 1oz. so you get a ton of product for $5! I can see this lasting for more than a year, considering a little goes a long way.
City Color Glowing Complexion Illuminating Cream Review and Swatches

It has a narrow tip for dispensing which is great...it helps to keep things neat and gives you more control than a pump.  You can use as little or as much as you want without wasting product.
This can be used under foundation as a base to give your skin an all-over glow, or on top of foundation as a highlighter. I use my fingers to apply it to my cheekbones, forehead, bridge of my nose, and cupid's bow, but you can use a brush or beauty blender as well.  I just find it quickest to use my fingers.
City Color Glowing Complexion Illuminating Cream Review and Swatches

Here's what it looks like when you first swipe it...it has amazing pigmentation. It has a super lightweight, silky feel to it that's so soft and easy to blend.
City Color Glowing Complexion Illuminating Cream Review and Swatches

Blended out a little, you can see that it's not glittery at all, yet it picks up so much light! I really like when highlighters are pigmented enough that they make your cheekbones really pop...sometimes they're barely noticeable.  You don't have to worry about that with this one...it's absolutely stunning on the skin.
City Color Glowing Complexion Illuminating Cream Review and Swatches

I was hoping that this might be a dupe for a more expensive highlighter, but I couldn't get the color to match any of the ones I own.  It's somewhere in between Becca's Pearl and Opal Shimmering Skin Perfectors...it's a little warmer than Pearl, but not as pink as Opal. It's also in-between The Balm's Mary LouManizer and Cindy LouManizer powder highlighters...it's not as pink as Cindy Lou but not as gold as Mary Lou. So it's a very unique shade that I'm so happy to add to my ever-growing highlighter collection!

If you're thinking about trying this, you can use my City Color Cosmetics coupon code on their website to get 15% off your order! It's BBBSAVE15 and it's good until 6/20/15

The Body Shop has just released their new Honey Bronze collection for Summer 2015 and there are some exciting new releases added to the existing Honey Bronze line! Let's take a look...

Honey Bronze Shimmering Dry Oil in Honey Kissed and Honey Gold ($22)- These lightweight body oils contain shimmer and a hint of color to even out your skin and add a beachy glow to your skin with no commitment.

Honey Kissed and Honey Gold

Once I saw this before & after photo, I decided I had to have this! I'm a total self-tanner phobe since I have fair skin, but a temporary tan is something I can definitely get behind.

Honey Bronze Tinted Face Gel ($20) is a translucent, lightweight formula that leaves your skin with a sun-kissed matte bronze tan that's never orange or streaky.  It also washes off with soap and water, so no fear of commitment!

Honey Bronze Highlighting Dome ($16) comes in three shades...a pink, a bronze and a champagne. They have a creamy, lightweight texture that's easy to blend on your cheeks and they're scented with a delicious honey fragrance.

Honey Bronze Tinted Leg Mist ($25) is a transparent gel mist that helps to create tanned legs in seconds. It gives an even, instant bronze matte glow...no oil, shimmer, or transfer!

I kind of want them all but especially the highlighting dome and the tinted leg mist! I can't wait until they're mine. Which ones are you excited to try?

J. Cat Liptitude 24/7 Hydrating Lip Stain ($5.99) is brand new for Summer 2015 and promises "intense color with no sticky residue" in a long-wearing lip stain. J.Cat is a relatively new brand, launching in Los Angeles in 2012, but their popularity is rapidly growing, especially since they launched their Wonder Lip Paints last year (see my review and comparison to OCC Lip Tars here). So I'm really excited for another lip product from J.Cat...let's take a look!

Here's the full description from the J.Cat website

Glide instant intensity onto lips with Liptitude. A revolutionary MUST-HAVE long-wear lip stain delivers intense color with no sticky residue. This mineral-based skin conditioning emollients hydrating lip stain stays on the lips hours and hours with high-impact staining pigments.

Liptitude 24/7 Hydrating Lip Stain comes in 14 different shades:

I'm really curious about these, because a truly hydrating lip stain is a unicorn in the beauty world, so I'm crossing my fingers that this one will live up to it's claims! What do you think? Will you be trying Liptitude?

Colourpop Super Shock Highlighters Review and Swatches

Colourpop Super Shock Cheeks Highlighters ($8 at Colourpop) are new for Spring 2015, and like everything Colourpop creates, they're gorgeous, affordable, and come in a wide range of shades.  I purchased two shades to review and swatch for you guys, Wisp and Teasecake.  Let's take a look, shall we?
Colourpop Super Shock Highlighters Review and Swatches

The highlighters are in the exact same packaging as the Super Shock Cheeks and even the label says Super Shock Cheek (a little confusing when I'm reaching into my makeup drawer, looking for shades). All of the highlighters have a pearlized finish and they come in 15 shades, some of which look like actual blushes with more color than you'd normally see in a highlighter. But the majority of them are very light in color like traditional highlighters and they offer whites, golds, pinks and bronzes for all skin tones. I chose two lighter shades since I'm fair skinned...one that's pink toned and one that's more of a gold-champagne.
Colourpop Super Shock Highlighters Review and Swatches
Here they are side-by-side so you can see the comparison between them. I took these next few photos outside in natural light (not direct sunlight) so you can see the colors as accurately as possible.

Teasecakeis described as pale pink with a gold and pink duo chrome finish.
Colourpop Super Shock Highlighters Review and Swatches
Teasecake
Wisp is a golden-champagne with highly reflective hues of gold duo-chrome finishes.
Colourpop Super Shock Highlighters Review and Swatches
Wisp
The texture of these is even softer and squishier than the blushes (I'm not sure how that's even possible!) and they pick up and blend so easily.  But due to the softer formula, I didn't find these to be quite as long lasting as the Super Shock Cheek blushes. They faded after several hours, while the blushes lasted all day on me. Although I would say they still lasted longer than a powder would on my dry skin, but if you have oily skin, you may have to worry about these sliding off.
Colourpop Super Shock Highlighters Review and Swatches
Teasecake and Wisp
Still, despite the shorter wear time, I'm in love with the new Colourpop highlighters.  They're so beautiful and affordable, I plan to pick up more shades. I had such a hard time choosing the first time but now I'm thinking I want to get some of the deeper, more blush-like shades (I have quite enough regular highlighters...I think). I love my Colourpop matte blushes but I think some of the darker highlighters would be a pretty option for summer. What about you? Have you tried the new Colourpop Highlighters? Or are you planning on picking some up?
They're available for $8 each at Colourpop.com.

Becca Beach Tint Shimmer Souffle Review & Swatches

Becca Beach Tint Shimmer Souffle ($27 at Sephora) is an air-whipped blush and highlighter in one with a soft, mousse-like texture. This actually came out last Spring, but I just spotted it recently because my local Sephora finally got the Becca line a few weeks ago. For me, Becca is most well known for their Shimmering Skin Perfectors and their Beach Tint...well, this product fuses both of them together for perfect, glowing cheeks. Let's take a look...
Becca Beach Tint Shimmer Souffle

Beach Tint Shimmer Souffle comes in 6 shades and are essentially their best selling Beach Tint shades mixed with their amazing Shimmering Skin Perfector shades. Each name combines both the color and the highlight. I chose Lychee/Opal because it fuses two of my favorite shades together...Lychee is a beautiful summery hot pink and opal is a golden pearl highlight. They also come in Fig/Opal, Raspberry/Opal, Guava/Moonstone, Watermelon/Moonstone, and Papaya/Topaz.
They come in a glass jar with a silver-colored cap.  The bottom is see-through so you can tell which color you're picking up.
Becca Beach Tint Shimmer Souffle Lychee Opal

When you first open it, the souffle has a marbled look to it...the blush and highlighter aren't really mixed well.
Becca Beach Tint Shimmer Souffle Lychee/Opal
But once you swirl your finger around in it, they start to combine. The texture of this is actually kind of similar to the Colourpop highlighters...it's squishy, soft, and bouncy, but this one feels even softer and less densely packed. I was afraid that the staying power wouldn't be that great because it's so creamy and soft, but it actually lasts the majority of the day on my dry skin!
Becca Beach Tint Shimmer Souffle review
Here are the ingredients...fun fact- it contains brown algae extract to hydrate, soothe and reduce redness in the skin.

Here's an outdoor photo taken in natural light (no direct sun) so you can really see the color in it's most true-to-life state. It's absolutely gorgeous!
Becca Beach Tint Shimmer Souffle swatches

Lychee/Opal is one of the lightest shades, but on my fair skin, it shows up just fine...darker skin tones may find this shade a bit too light/sheer though. It's nicely pigmented at first swipe and then blends beautifully to leave behind a subtle color with a glowing highlight. I use my fingers to apply this but you can use a stippling brush for a more subtle, sheer look.
Becca Beach Tint Shimmer Souffle swatches

For the past few months, I've been using nothing but my Colourpop blushes, but this is a nice change for summer because it's so light and luminous! I also love that it's a blush and highlighter in one because it saves a step and is one less thing to pack when I'm traveling...it's the ultimate quick and easy product, which is exactly what I look for in the summer when I scale back the amount of makeup I wear.
You can purchase Beach Tint Shimmer Souffle at Sephora or at Beccacosmetics.com

I'm Dying to Try...

Lately, I've been seeing ads around the web for a brand called 100% Pure.  Have you guys seen this, or tried anything from this brand? They have makeup that's dyed with actual fruit! Let's take a look at a couple of their products...

First, I had see this foundation that's colored from peaches. Turns out it's called Fruit Pigmented Water Foundation.  It's $38...not cheap! In fact, it's similarly priced to an Urban Decay or Tarte foundation.  But just look at the ingredients:
(Organic Aloe Juice)*, Extract of Peach Fruit, Apricot Fruit, Carrot, Pomegranate, Cocoa Bean and Tomato Fruit/Leaf/Stem, Zinc Oxide, Acai Oil, Pomegranate Seed Oil, Resveratrol (Red Wine Resveratrol), Alpha Lipoic Acid, Vitamin E, Rice Starch, Green Tea Leaf Extract, Candelilla Wax, Extracts of Rosemary Officinalis Leaf, Oregano Leaf, Thymus Flower/Leaf Extract, Vegetable Glycerine, Japanese Honeysuckle.
* Certified Organic

Every ingredient in this foundation is something I can pronounce! I feel compelled to try it because if it performs as good as what's inside the bottle, this might be an amazing find.

Their Fruit Pigmented Pomegranate Oil Anti-Aging lipsticks ($28) are also all natural and claim to super moisturizing with shea butter, and pomegranate oil. Again, the ingredients in here totally blew me away...
Ingredients:
Organic Shea Butter*, Organic Pomegranate* Seed Oil, Organic Cocoa* Seed Butter, Extracts of Organic Cherry* Fruit, Organic Plum* Fruit, Cabernet Grape Fruit, Organic Raspberry* Fruit, Organic Blueberry* Fruit, Organic Blackberry* Fruit, Organic Peach* Fruit, Organic Apricot* Fruit, Organic Tomato* Fruit/Leaf/Stem, Organic Pomegranate*, Organic Chocolate*, Organic Rose Petals* Flower, Organic Lavender* Flower/Leaf/Stem and Cocoa Powder, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Candelilla Wax, Rosemary Leaf Extract
* Certified Organic

100% Pure has an entire range of makeup and skincare products in addition to these. I've been checking out their website trying to decide what I want to try first!
I'd love to hear from you if you've tried any of their products...what did you think?

The past few days, I've been seeing a lot of photos on Instagram of new Maybelline products that you guys have been finding at Walmart including Baby Lips Glosses, Color Blur Matte Lip Pencils and Better Skin Foundation and concealer.
Sadly, I've checked three Walmarts in my area and none of them have any new products yet (I plan to check one more store tomorrow, but then I'm out of luck).
However, I did see an empty ColorBlur display set up at one Walmart store I went to, so I'm hoping to see everything very soon!

Have you spotted the new Maybelline products where you live?

NEW Sally Hansen Airbrush Face Makeup Spotted at Walmart

$

Today I was at Walmart looking for the new Maybelline Summer releases and while I didn't have any luck with those, I did spot an exciting new launch from Sally Hansen!
Airbrush Face Makeup ($9.97) is a foundation version of their Airbrush Legs spray, which I love.  I was also a huge fan of Sally Hansen's Natural Beauty Airbrush Foundation that was part of the Carmindy (makeup artist from What Not to Wear) line at CVS several years back. I was so disappointed when that was discontinued, so I'm crossing my fingers that this is the same formula, just repackaged.

I have no idea what's going on with the display here and why there's a huge black line that looks like it's giving the model a moustache (?) but anyway, it claims to give a "lightweight, flawless finish" and is oil free for all skin types. The display also says that this is a Walmart exclusive...so unfortunately, you'll have to pay a visit to Wally World if you want to try this.

This comes in 6 shades: 120 Classic Ivory, 200 Natural Beige, 220 Warm Beige, 240 Soft Honey, 320 Natural Tan, 340 Warm Caramel. I'm not sure if more shades will follow, but there are gaps in the numbers, so maybe?

Flower Glisten Up Highlighter Chubby($9.98) is a sheer, illuminating highlighter from Drew Barrymore's makeup line that I recently found at Walmart. These have been out since last year, so they're not new, but I don't go to Walmart all that often so they're new to me.  I decided to grab all three shades to review and swatch for you guys, so let's take a closer look!

I know I've been doing a ton of highlighter reviews lately, but there's something about the Spring and Summer season that makes me want to buy highlighters! It's weird, I don't know why. I guess I crave a more glowy complexion in the warm weather, while I go for more of a matte look in the Winter.

Here's some short bullet points from the Walmart website:
  • Illuminating highlighter in a self-sharpening jumbo crayon
  • Silky formula provides a brightening effect and luxurious finish
  • Use over makeup or alone for a natural glow
  • Proudly made in the USA
  • Never tested on animals

These come in three shades...Pearl Shimmer (a golden-pink champagne shade), Gold Coaster (soft, yellow-gold shimmer), and Honey Bronze (a honey-nude shimmer). The colors on the Walmart site are not accurate at all...it makes Pearl Shimmer look white, but it's not white at all, definitely more of a champagne color. It also makes Honey Bronze look less warm than it actually is. I made sure that my photos show the shades as true-to-life as possible, so you can really see what you're buying.

I absolutely love the packaging of these, with a few exceptions which I'll talk about in a few minutes. First, the good news- these are large chubby sticks with a rounded top that are perfect for applying highlighter easily to your face. They're also super travel-friendly, so you can pack them for your summer vacations, or carry them in your purse, no problem. They're essentially a swipe, blend and go product, which I love for summer when I'm going for a no-fuss look. They also twist up so there's no need to sharpen them (not that you would anyway...there's no sharpener in the world this large!).
On the downside, they don't twist all the way down, so you can potentially knick them as you're putting the cap back on.

The other gripe I have with the packaging is that the tube is much longer than the actual product inside, so I thought I was getting a lot more product for $10. Here's a brand new one twisted all the way up. The amount of product is about half the size of the tube (not including the cap). But the good news is, you don't need to use a lot, so this amount will still last a long time.

The shades are on the sheer side, but can be easily built up. When it comes to highlighters, I feel like sheer is better anyway...you don't want to actually see much of the color, just add some glow. These do contain shimmer, but it's subtle, so you won't look all sparkly or anything like that. The formula is super creamy and blends so easily with your fingers.  On my dry skin, these lasted most of the day but since they are very creamy and soft, they may not last quite as long on oily skin types unless you set them with powder.
Pearl Shimmer is my absolute favorite when it comes to my fair skin...it's the perfect glow. Gold Coaster also works for lighter skintones as well as medium to deeper skintones. I can't really use Honey Bronze as a highlighter since it's too dark for me, but I can use it as a bronzer because it's not orange and not too dark either.

I was thinking that Pearl Shimmer might be a dupe for Benefit's Watts Up! but when I swatched them, I realized that it's a little lighter. Watts Up! does have pink in it, but it also has some bronze, so it's kind of in-between Pearl Shimmer and Honey Bronze.

Right: Flower Pearl Shimmer
Overall, I would definitely recommend Flower's Glisten Up Highlighters! They're so convenient and easy to use, travel-friendly, really creamy and blendable, and also long-lasting. Plus the colors are so pretty. Have you tried these yet? What are your favorite highlighters? Drop me a comment and let me know! :)
